I posted a meme of Trump giving the viewer the double fingers with "Cry Harder" as a caption.
It was intended to be sarcastic, as in NOT Pro-Trump, and a cursory view of that account's posting history would support that view. The crowd went berserk and that account was banned from the Political Memes, News, and asklemmy.....

Was there anything to suggest it was satire, like the title maybe?

[–] miss_demeanour@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Nope, just the meme. Can't even recall what the post was about, long pre-election and normal lemmy anti-maga content.
Mine was the first comment and immediately went to -1, got dogpiled to about -50, then removed by moderator, and I was banned.

Ah. The curse of context eh.

dang... I hate when this happens, you post something, and you think its abvious satire. And then nobody gets it and you get insulted by your own peers.

Not to mentioned being banned from a Political Meme sub for posting a political meme.

Plus, lemmy dogpiles from the get go: if your post/comment gets to '-1' off the bat, there's zero chance of recovery.

This is a common social media trend so it shouldn't be surprising that it happens on lemmy too.

Most of the time when I see a seemingly innocuous comment being downvoted checking the user history shows they are actually meaning it in a negative way or pregending to the sarcastic. But yeah, it sucks when it is just a misunderstanding as that certainly happens too.

Sometimes for fun when I get the occasional comment that gets misinderstood I slap on an edit pointing that out fully expecting more downvotes, but sometimes it turns around. Always worth it.
