Norway is now planning a legal ban on such activities when they contribute to Israel's illegal occupation.

The LO Congress put forward this demand as early as May . At that time, LO advocated a ban on trade and other business activities with companies that contribute to maintaining Israel's illegal occupation of Palestinian territories.

Now SV has achieved success in making this a national policy through the negotiations on the revised national budget.

– What we have done for Palestine and international solidarity in this revised budget is absolutely exceptional. We will get a legal ban on trade with actors who profit or operate in occupied territory, says Andreas Sjalg Unneland to Friremovedbevegelse.

– It is a clear signal to Benjamin Netanyahu that we will not sit idly by and watch the daily abuses – and genocide – that are taking place against the Palestinian population.

Unneland is proud to have achieved a foreign policy breakthrough in a revised national budget.

– It is also a signal that other European countries must also act.

– The only language Netanyahu and his government understand is power. Now we will finally get a ban on trade with companies that contribute to Israel's illegal occupation, adds Kirsti Bergstø.

Which companies can be affected by a Norwegian law? SV has some examples:

• Companies that sell bulldozers that demolish Palestinian houses in occupied territory.

• Company that sells tram tracks that will run in occupied territory.

• Companies that supply gas stations in occupied territories.

Signal to the oil fund

LO leader Kine Asper Vistnes applauds that SV has secured a commitment from the government to introduce the ban.

– This is completely in line with what the LO Congress decided this year, she points out.

The agreement is aimed, among other things, at KLP, Storebrand and the Norwegian banks and financial institutions against interacting with companies that contribute to maintaining the occupation.

The government has received criticism, including from LO and Norwegian People's Aid, for investing in companies associated with settlements.

SV does not hide the fact that this is a strong signal to the oil fund.

– All praise to the red-greens in the Storting who come together, find compromises and find solutions. After all, politics is about results, says LO leader Kine Asper Vistnes.
