I'm not saying Reagan wasn't a bad president, just focusing on his effects on the economy. That doesn't excuse his other failures.
Putin is a lot worse than Trump though. I can somehow imagine a future where the right person talks to Trump and convinces him to support Ukraine in a real way.
I don't see any other way out of this mess for Putin except his death. Best option would be some sort of a revolution.
Russians themselves were willing (or were ordered instead of asked) to go die in WW2 against Nazi Germany. Was this a "sheer hatred of germans" that was due to "germanphobic propaganda"? Perhaps a bit, but there cleary was a worthy cause behind it all.
If it meant an end to the fascist regime of Russia, it'd be worth it. We all die anyway at some point, why not die for a good cause then.
Is there some sort of an overview of all the components that are required for the whole system to work? Are there opportunities for new PSPs to emerge and try to topple the existing ones with better and cheaper service?
There are couple multi-billion euro companies (all the Payment Service Processors, Visa, Mastercard, etc) that would necessarily become several million euro companies if Taler was successful though. That's a lot of concentrated power that doesn't want Taler to succeed.

GNU Taler has been specifically designed to allow authorities to control (or at least monitor) the flow of money, though.
I'm over 40 and I usually stand up about half of my working day. But I wouldn't want to stand in an airplane because it's cramped.
