A sad truth is that countries like China and Russia are using these techniques everywhere to counter domestic uprisings and also to support their subterfuge against the west.

What is the credible EU counter to that that wouldn't destroy privacy? I cannot think of anything.

I don't support this legislation, but I'm feeling uneasy about how weak we are in this sense.

The problem with that solution is that if like 1% of the people use encryption, the use of encryption in itself suggests that the individual is doing something that warrants investigation.

Matrix seems to work well. I'm on a smallish non-profit server. I regard it as the premium open-source step forward from IRC.

The worst problem is that there are really no channels that I care to follow.

Well of course if you live in USA. I live next to Russia and therefore prioritize these things quite a lot higher.

Welp.

I hope upcoming President Vance was pro-Russia only because his boss was Putin's bitch, and that he will be better than Trump in that front.

My hopes are not extremely high about that.

For context, Pedro Sánchez is also the Secretary General of the center-left Partido Socialista Obrero Español party. So it is not shocking that he is pro-Palestine: to my knowledge all left-of-center parties in EU are.
