still seems to me u guys are doing it for witchhunting. if someone doesn't like someone they can just ban them. you two going on and on about writing a program and using ai to catch peopel you don't like is icky. I'll be one of the people voting against this if it ever goes wide on lemmy. no thanks. u all need to touch grass, ur way too caught up in lemmy

I previously commented to you that I think it's sick. but are you using it to attack users or to find out bad mod actions and proof of mods and admins and people like @PhilipTheBucket@quokk.au who obsess and witchhunt people they disagree with?

[–] sekxpistol@feddit.uk 1 points 2 months ago

happened plenty and you guys still witchhunt people who didn't seem to worship everything dem lol luckilly lemmy is so dencentralize that they don't have to be silenced no matte rhow much u wish they were

I’ve built some of the more important tools already which allow me to pull the entire comment history of a user and perform significant sentiment analysis, key phrase extraction, etc… but some aspects aren’t reliable enough yet to be completely useful.

this sounds gross and very much like witch-hunting and stalking. yes, all comments are public but u coming up w a tool just to find someones and analyze and make judgement on them seems gross and out of line. think of how fasicst and controling that sounds. what if some republican was doing that and bragged about it? think about that

Yep! And it's about time Lemmy started to realize this. Because for the longest time, Lemmy was in denial about this. In fact, saying what you just said, would get you banned in this sub real quick just last year.

Since karma isn’t tracked,

Some third party apps do track Lemmy downvotes though. And I've seen plenty of obnoxious posters bring up someones "downvote count" in conversation--just so they can try to win their argument.

We just need more people posing shit, the fact that one or two users can dominate my feed if they choose to is not ideal.

That's because so many on Lemmy would rather downvote than post anything.

People here are way bigger smug assholes than even Reddit.

Yep, and I am legit shocked about that. I still have a burner reddit account that I go to, and honestly, as much crap as reddit gets, I see way more assholes and ban-happy people here. On reddit someone gets mad at you or your opinion, and they just block you.

Here, a lot of posters who dislike ya will refuse to block you. Instead they'll follow you and downpost every single post you make. I never had stalkers like that on Reddit.

Like you, I was an early fan. And even tried to talk my gf into getting on Lemmy. The other day, she finally decided to, and I talked her out of it and told her to just stick with Reddit. lol

NOTHING is stopping a conservative from coming here and making cogent, factual arguments, aside from their own fragility.

Except for all the Lemmys saying that no conservatives should be allowed on Lemmy. I have seen conservatives try to ask a question. Then so many immediately jump to calling the poster a sealioning nazi, that they just get run off. Lemmy is one of the more hateful places I have seen.

I'm not conservative by the way, so you all don't have send me nazi dm's.

It actually uses a variation of LISP. I know old MIT college courses in Computer Science used to teach it.

The book, "How to Design Programs," is based on a variation of LISP, which I know used to be taught in college computer science courses.

I have zero programming experience, but I want to learn—not for a job, just to truly understand it.

A lot of modern advice says to start with Python because it’s easier or faster, but I’m not looking for shortcuts.

I want to go old-school. This book teaches programming with a 1990s-style approach. It may not use the latest tools, but I’ve heard it actually teaches how to think like a programmer and builds real logic skills.

Once I finish it, I plan to take the University of Helsinki’s Java MOOC. Again, sticking to fundamentals and learning the core ideas, not just trendy frameworks.

For context, I’m not naturally a math person either—I’m teaching myself beginning college algebra right now. That’s less about going old-school and more because I never had a college education, so I’m starting from scratch across the board.

So, does this sound like a solid strategy? My goal isn’t a career—just a deep, strong foundation to see if I can really do this.

What do you all think?
