In this thread people often talk about "a contributor". However, lemmy's the core dev teams has a very specific "political view" which is coupled with the project. The project was started to serve people with that "political view". And this makes really hard to decouple project and the people who drive it.

I remember when extreme political views of main Lemmy Devs (which are/where admins s of lemmygrad as well, if I recall correctly) were discussed here several times, people suggested to ignore them and focus on their work. Donate for Lemmy development, not to the persons...

what concrete solution do you see, switch to kbin? Continue to separate development from their other activities?

I guess, it gives openai some protection from legal attacks and from people who do not understand what they are using - same thing as "very hot drink inside" written on s coffee cups.

This depends on how you define "support". Reddit plans IPO, having more active users helps with this. If you post there or answer other people you contribute to Reddit value as well.

You don’t need to spend any time on reddit or even make an account to take advantage of that functionality. You just Google your question and add reddit to the end and voila.

I was talking about asking my specific question, not googling for information.

Thanks for the list - agree - these communities are are rather alive, what is promising.

Good for you. I have a very mixed experience.

This is true, but also subjective. How do you define enough? Enough to doomscroll or enough to check for 10 minutes daily? All we really need to be self sufficient is enough content to keep people coming back regularly, we don’t need to replicate reddit.

Right, this is subjective. For me the main criteria is: if I want to get an answer to a question, especially a non trivial one which is not releated to lemmy/fediverse - I should better go to reddit. And I think lemmy should better replicate reddit with this

This seems like an exaggeration. Most communities that have quality content also have quality discussion, in my experience.

Probably, can you give me example of such communities which are not about fedeverse, technology, foss or memes?

30,000 range for MAUs before the end of the year, ... current userbase is fairly well established and self sufficient.

I see it differently. It looks like the majority of communities struggle with not enough content/discussions, many de-facto are blogs of mods/creators where others are passive subscribers.

There are good opensource models one can use and, if needed, fine-tune. Not every task needs chatGPT power. One can also build applications using openai models (directly by openai or by ms azure).

Google has AI models as a service as well.

It is important to understand that an application on top of openai model is not nessesarly a just chatgpt wrapper.

Thank you.

I add a lobby and a password, so random person cannot join - fine.
But still, I invite people and give this password. So, the first who come to to meeting (5 mins before start, 1 hour before start 1 day before start) automatically becomes admin of it. This is probably ok for a 3 friends meeting, but hardly usable for school parents or a hobby club meetings.

You made a statement that yandex is not Russian company any more and partially belongs to Ukraine. This is bullshit. Read Wikipedia article about yandex, it's "золотая акция" (golde stock) and who owns this "stock" noe, read about its official status of critical company for Russia. Then go to russian IT communities and read how yandex became more and more "controlled" by the government.

Before that, please provide sources that ysndey partially belongs to Ukraine and is not "russian anymore".

I need to set up a video conference for about 30 people for 2 hours. I would use zoom or ms teams, but Zoom limits me to 45mins; ms teams, as far as I understood, limits me to 1 hour.

What is the best and the simplest way to do this (and it must be a reliable option with web access)?

Ps: there is no need to be foss or super private or encrypted.

The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max will have built-in Thread radio, so they can directly communicate with smart home devices. Old iPhones could probably be used as a smart home hub.

I think this the most interesting update of the event.

I often read that people in Japan often have emotional attachment to gadgets and robots.

But I cannot recall something about cars. Do you know if emotional attachment to cars is a thing in Janan?
