Something something healthcare is a right elsewhere too something something

We can and should do better.

And if self hosting bitwarden seems tough, look at vaultwarden instead. It's a one-container all in one bitwarden-compatible container.

So free like starlink instead of free like beer

Still my favorite of the 2020 press conferences.

In front of a landscaping business. Next to a strip club and bar.

There's another free video editor called shotcut. Give it a try, works great.

I know this may come off as a surprise: but I imagine that requiring JS in 2024 isn't a big deal to most people.

Now of course Lemmy skews more into that small crowd.

I don't blame any website for requiring JS for full functionality in 2024.

There is this face that Vance makes while Walz is talking where he looks at the camera and sort of rolls his eyes.

Idk why but it's kind of funny to me

[–] csm10495@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah that was rough. I wish he just answered the question the first time.

[–] csm10495@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 weeks ago

Great point from Walz on trusting experts.

Probably some. People don't realize the VP doesn't have much power other than given by the president.

Notice how Vance hasn't said the word Biden.

At one point I thought that if the Government was giving money for EV chargers, they would be either at-cost or free to use.

One of the first built was at a Flying J truck stop in Ohio.

I looked on plug share and found one in Hubbard, OH and it's 67c per kwh (https://www.plugshare.com/location/582660). The average cost of electricity in that area is less than 15c per kwh. At that kind of price, gas could be a cheaper option.

Why does the government subsidize in a way where already wealthy companies get public money to build chargers, and make a ton more money off the rest of us?

(This is not a political statement at all. I just don't understand why public money goes to make certain private folks more wealthy. I figure I must be missing something).

Thanks for your thoughts!

Anyone having a new issue where swiping from the left to go back to the thread list from a thread doesn't load properly and instead shows a black screen for a second or so.

Anyone here use fidelity (https://www.fidelity.com/)? I had to call to get something done with my account and thought it was weird that they have you (more/less) T9 dial your password into the system, though its not real T9 in that (for example) one press of 2 would mean either a,A,b,B,c,C,2. They say for special characters just give a * sign.

Any thoughts on if that is safe on their part? It seems weird to me since they either need the password in plaintext on their end or I guess the hash of the T9 version of the password which would be less secure anyways because of: all one case and only one type of 'special character'.

And yes: before you ask this was 100% the actual fidelity phone number: +1 800-343-3548

In their defense they did ask for other verification information once I got a person, but still felt really weird.

Any thoughts on the security of this mechanism?

Hey folks,

Is it possible to have a mlmym endpoint for sh.itjust.works? Maybe old.sh.itjust.works?

I know the lemmy ui has come a decent ways.. but sometimes I just want to look at it like old reddit.

lemmy.world has one: https://old.lemmy.world/

If not: no big deal. if so: would be cool.

It's a sad day: My previous mechanical keyboard more/less died. Multiple keys just stopped working and even upon replacing them with new switches: still dead.

So anyways I'm looking for a keyboard with some specific features:

Anyone know of one that is:

  • full size (extra macro keys would be a bonus!)
  • rgb backlit
  • has at least one usb port on it (so it has a builtin hub of sorts) Super bonus if it also has a type c passthrough port.
  • user-swapable cherry-mx compatible switches. (bonus if it comes with browns)
  • bonus points if it can run open-source firmware
  • bonus points if it has a volume spinner-thing

I know its asking a bunch, but hey if someone has seen one of these, or has ideas: let me know.

Budget: idk, but I'd be willing to pay probably $200 ish if it was a perfect match and seemed legit.

Thanks in advance

Hey folks,

Does anyone know of an app (FOSS or otherwise) that has a built-in REST-server to get current device info?

I'd like to be able to hit the API from within my local network to get info including:

  • Free space vs used space
  • Battery percentage

Why?

I have an old Android device that sits in the closet as a Syncthing node. It does some other random stuff too. I don't really want to have to get up and look at it to find out certain information. I already have a VNC server running on it. I even have a (sketchy) SSH server on it that I currently call df -h on to programmatically get free space info. The SSH server has some weirdness where it seems to stop working after some time, among other oddities. Also it can't get battery level afaict.

I imagine this is possible using ADB, but I don't really want to have to always leave the device in wireless ADB mode or manually put it in that mode each time; unless that is easier than I think.

Thanks!

Also in an order that confused me.

.. its a website run by the US Government. Why does it have such large downtimes in this day and age?

Anyone else getting some random errors and 500s on here recently?

I don't think the main page works properly for me.

I made a video showing it acting weird: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1fzgSMJgTaU4BxXTBMANZmbtlagMQFjPK/view?usp=sharing

So it defaults to Local (even though in settings i have all) but then it sometimes shows stuff from other instances.

Then when I hit all sometimes it loads different content sometimes.

Am I misunderstanding these buttons? Should they load similar content on refresh or do they not refresh .. or am I confusing myself?

Thanks folks.
