What exactly are you basing this on? Harris ran a terrible campaign with the usual Democratic half-measure policy proposals and lost. That should hardly be a surprise. There is no evidence to say that a populist Democrat like Bernie or AOC couldn't win.

What if Harris had made the whole campaign into a referendum on the broken healthcare system? It turns out that that's where the Republican voters she was trying to woo were hiding all along.

It's also not as easy to hack electronic systems anymore. It's not that they are invulnerable, but the vulnerabilities are generally more complicated and difficult to exploit. Setting aside people still running Windows XP or something, vulnerabilities get patched pretty quickly today. State actors have the time and resources to still do straight up electronic hacking, but opportunities for individuals are sparse.

Of course there is still the human element. Most data breaches done by individuals nowadays rely, at least in part, on social engineering.

They are done by medical professionals who have no obligation or incentive to serve the best interests of the patient. If your doctor fucks up, he can be found liable. If the insurance doctor fucks up, there is no liability whatsoever. Cases have been brought to court and then immediately thrown out because there is no legal basis for holding them accountable.

The ACA made the Health insurance industry into one of the biggest profit generating machines in the country. That brought in the Wall Street greed machine and tons of lobbying cash. Now it's entrenched and the Democrats are afraid to touch it.

The ACA brought in some much needed reforms, but the cost we paid might mean the collapse of the whole system. It was another massive cash transfer to the wealthy at a time when wealth inequality was already out of control. Once that cash starts flowing, shutting off the taps takes backbone, and most Democrats don't have those. Wall Street now feels entitled to those earnings forever.

That's not why she lost. The sexist vote is going to go Republican, regardless of what Democrat is running. Whatever votes she might have lost because of her gender would be made up for with enthusiasm for the first woman president, if only she was someone who could inspire enthusiasm.

Too bad the Democrats didn't make the election a referendum on the healthcare system. It suddenly seems like that's what the "moderate" voters she was going for actually care about. Someone should have suggested that.

It's an amazingly accurate stereotype that right wingers change their opinion on an issue the moment it impacts them. I'm sure you're on track with his motive, but that doesn't make him a liberal.

The computers we have today help to do logistics to "feed, clothe and house the homeless". They also help you to advocate to do more. How much of that would be comprehensible to someone living in 1900?

I'm not sure that homelessness is a problem quantum computing or AI are suitable for. However, AI has already contributed in helping to solve protein folding problems that are critical in modern medicine.

Solving homelessness and many other problems isn't resource constrained as you think. It's more about the will to solve them, and who profits from leaving them unsolved. We have known for decades that providing homes for the homeless in a large city actually saves the city money, but we're still not doing it. Renewable energy has been cheaper than fossil fuels for almost as long. Medicare for all would cost significantly less than the US private healthcare system, and would lead to better results, but we aren't doing that either.

I used to buy my phones with a specific eye towards avoiding bloat. It was still possible to avoid most of it 8-10 years ago, but not anymore.

There is a lot more than liking right wing media figures. Class solidarity is a bit of a stretch since his family wealth is closer to what that CEO had than most Americans.

Is the enemy of my enemy my friend? Maybe. I'm just not sure this guy is a great banner carrier. I respect your opinion and realize I'm in the minority. I'd be much happier if he was never caught. I don't desire to see him punished, but I don't see it being helpful if he gets painted as the next Ted Kaczynski. His background is just not helpful.

It's worth noting that we don't know exactly why they called the cops. It appears the cops didn't know who he was until they had him pull down his mask. I'm guessing he was quite the sight after several days on the run, and probably several nights without much sleep.
