Poland has historically had allegiances with UK, USA and France. These imperialist nations are the most likely to come and back you up if you get involved in a war. This led to them throwing around more weight than they had, picking fights bigger than they could chew because they figured the dominant colonial powers would always have their backs. It's usually not worked out well for them.
Certainly not the first time the USA has lied about its wars and deny things it is very evidently doing. Their entire strategy in Libya and Syria revolved around these obvious lies that the media purposefully overlooked. One day ISIS is enemy number one of the free world, the next they are moderate non-ideological rebels. Nothing is real.
This worked out really well for the Romans
