Tankies annoy the fuck out of me as well, got banned from an .ml community for daring to say dictatorships are bad the other day, but he is 100% factually correct. The term propaganda itself has no positive or negative connotations. It's just that in person people just typically only use the word when they want to imply said propaganda is bullshit. Like "Don't listen to this it's just propaganda". Even the causes you support likely have some sort of propaganda, it's not inherently bad, the word just has negative connotations colloquially.

Democratic socialism just means you believe in democratically governed socialism, not that you think you can just vote capitalism into socialism. There's both reformist and revolutionary democratic socialists. I both believe in democracy and also see that the only way to overturn capitalism (at least in the US) would be through revolution. All the democratic part means is that they're opposed to monarchies or dictatorships.
A lot of it has to do with the kind of music or instrument you play. If you're playing guitar in a rock band, a lot of guitarists can't read music. Hell a lot of guitar sheet music specifically has the tabs attached. If you're playing trumpet for a jazz band or orchestra though, you're pretty much required to read music.

So yes and no. The truly best "video game" stories are the ones that genuinely utilize player agency and decision making in a unique and memorable way. It separates what could be unique to video games as a storytelling form as opposed to a movie or novel where you aren't literally controlling the protagonist.
Not saying people who have never played games shouldn't or can't write a good video game story, but if you haven't put time into a medium you often won't know how to best utilize what makes it unique.
