Copy-pasting my comment from the crosspost:

Can we stop with the "strategic voting" bullshit?

Go ahead and "strategic vote" but don't come around complaining when Canada ends up being a two-party state like our oh-so mentally sound southern neighbours.

According to the City of Calgary’s Integrity and Ethics Office annual report delivered to city councillors on Sept. 17, 2024, there were 51 complaints made under the Code of Conduct for Elected Officials Bylaw. Forty-eight of those complaints were dismissed, with the rationale being no reasonable grounds, or frivolous or vexatious. The reporting period was from May 1, 2023, to April 30, 2024.

That's a high ratio of complaints dismissed.

Hate to say they'll likely move to BlueSky, but at the very least it would be a good idea to have them make a bridge via Bridgy Fed.

Man, what a cop-out.

I mean, good on there being more options I suppose, but wish they had better values.

Saw they had a candidate in my riding listed on the Elections Canada site the other day and I just can't help but feel they could be standing for better things.

Gotta love the language here implying he only sees Indigenous people as means to access resources rather than seeing them as normal people whose lives and histories should be respected.

Must be hard simply being a fiscal conservative in the Conservative party right now seeing the social conservatives botching all the good publicity the party could possibly have had left.

The firmware explicitly states it's for photos only, and I tried my luck using both mp4 and webm formats.

I think you're misunderstanding, the TV's firmware literally states that it can only be used for photos. I tried accessing both webm and mp4 to try my luck, but nothing.

Oh! Is Roku something you can get separately? I always thought it was just a built-in OS on newer TVs.

Sorry if this doesn't belong here, more than happy to be pointed in the right direction if it doesn't.

I wanna do movie nights with friends where we watch movies together in the living room on my TV. I have a DVD player and VCR I got from the thrift shop as well as a few movies for both. However, I was thinking it would also be fun to expand the options available by downloading a bunch of public domain movies to play on the TV. Only issue is figuring how I'd work that all out.

The TV lacks any network connectivity features. While it has a USB slot, it can literally only detect pictures and set them up for slideshows. Even tried putting some video files on to test and it won't detect at all. Also because my computer is a desktop, connecting it directly to the TV from the other room is a no-go.

Is there some sort of device that serves this kind of purpose? Like something I can download videos to, and then connect it to my TV in a similar sense you would a DVD or VCR and be able to choose the content on the device using a remote? I'd really appreciate the help and pointers if this is something that exists.

Watched this all the time on Treehouse TV as a kid. Apparently it was originally on TVO? Crazy how I remember it so much despite it only having a single season apparently.

Figured I'd try promoting the community here. It's only been around a few days, but I would love to make this community an active and thriving one.

Look, if he just left it at saying that the protests were fine but the encampment was not, that would at least be understandable.

COMPARING IT TO THE FREEDOM CONVOY? BRUH

Genuinely surprised Smith is that low. Like, if it took into account how people nationally felt about Smith I'd see this as expected, but the Angus Reid poll referenced seems to be based on the approval ratings of the premiers by their constituents.

I swear not long back Smith had a 60% approval rating here, which is absurd to think about as expected as it is. Wonder if the podcast surfacing pissed people off.

If you can manage to thicken it so that it stays in place, I see no issue. Just with peanut butter and mayonnaise, it's really easy to spread it over the adhesive without it spreading to where you don't need it and it staying in place.

Maybe a paper towel might work, but I'd still worry about preventing it from spreading elsewhere instead of staying place personally.

I've used this trick to get old price stickers off my VHS cases (plastic ones, not cardboard), and to remove branded stickers off glass spice jars I want to reuse and relabel. Always works like a charm after letting it sit for a while.

So the other day I was in a conversation talking about the MP for my former riding, Greg McLean. I by no means am a Conservative voter, but of the Conservative MPs I can give respect to, Greg McLean is towards the top of the list considering the social issues he's worked on, and his engagement with the community.

I was checking out his website and shockingly found that he has a BlueSky has one of his social platforms. Not only that, but he also uses it regularly, posting multiple times per day. Now this could just be his publicity team rather than him directly, but it still caught me off guard in a positive way that it was a platform he utilized.

It had me thinking. What other MPs use BlueSky and/or Mastodon? I feel having a list would be a useful resource especially in asking other members of parliament by legitimizing the idea of providing a method of following them on social media without using X or Facebook.
