"I'm as far left as they come" I proclaim as I piss on the corpse of a doctor my fascist pal murdered because I was too cowardly

Good old wiki moderation. Can't definitively say the sky's blue until NYT/BBC retract that story about it maybe being red.

Astrology is extremely interesting as one of the practices in the interaction of the history of science and the history of religion. It's quite a marvel to read what came from stargazing and how it shaped the stories that become myths and religions, comparing how different cultures interpreted the same astronomical events and so on. Most things that past societies did looking higher than the nearest ash or cypress tree falls under astrology. Yet none of that means you should take a goat to the nearest priest trained in haruspicy.

As for the interesting things one can glean from some scam test, Orson Welles spent one day as a fortune teller and at the end of that day he was able to surmise a woman had recently lost her husband seemingly out of thin air. So don't become a shut-eye, don't needlessly lend your own unconscious analysis to things that don't deserve it and don't fall for something you dug for yourself.

The number is eeriely well written sarcastic comments here is almost concerning

I dream of putting liberals in therapy contraptions like in a clockwork orange and make them watch videos of IOF just assaulting and murdering unarmed people, using people as human shields, aftermath of their bombings and so on. I'll tell them it's mcu if I have to

So does the humanoid silhouette on the second screen to its left! This is genuinely cause for concern.

The slop machines are improving faster than I'd hoped if they can recreate legible words.

History is written by the victor, be they blood drenched butchers or winners by default. Insha'Allah there will be no Zionist entity by 50 years and the imperial hegemon will be a husk, so that it won't be settlers writing the histories.

Petting bears is like drinking lava, you can only do it once

Worth it

I heard it a few times, mostly about Caesar's funeral. Every time the person talking/writing about it has the tone of "look at these crazy people giving in to hysteria." I couldn't say it's definitely true, not my area.

You're completely right on how they're portrayed generally. Storytellers will regularly mention generals making a fortune out of loot and slaves, neither the teller not listener will ask what that entails or how moral it is. Folks read Cicero proudly talking about being a slumlord and not bat an eye, at this point I wonder if they just compartmentalise it all, turn off major parts of their brain when the subject of certain ancient peoples comes up.

Disaster management is preparing for the worst scenarios, that includes having more equipment then just enough for the people already signed up to do the work. I didn't say or imply that they should just hoard stuff and forget about it.

California has wildfires regularly. They should have a whole lot of people on the payroll as regular firefighters, train potential volunteers to assist in fires, and have trucks, planes etc ready for this exact situation. This state and its cities are extremely wealthy. I can criticise countries like Greece and Turkey when they make errors, call out blatant mistakes, but at the end of the day I won't call them imbeciles as I do people in charge in California and LA. One has all the resources in the world, the other doesn't.

Westerners look down on the Romans throwing clothing and jewellery into funeral pyres, decrying how hysterical they were. And then they do this shit.

Firefighters in areas with regular forest fires don't have "surplus" equipment morons, only reserved for later use. This is what happens when an entire society live their lives convinced that infrequent disasters and so-called worst case scenarios may as well not happen.
