How is training routine like?

If you have any recommendations or suggestions for a beginner, could you please share them?

[–] Achyu@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

Yep.

I think that would be the summary

[–] Achyu@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago) (2 children)

Yep. It says that the mainstream left n right in the US is pro-ruling class, with only minor differences and they get entangled around only entry-level topics without going after the materials reasons for issues n solving them.

I think they mean the democrats, with the term to mean the US mainstream 'left'. The video criticises both the Left and Right under that definition.

[–] Achyu@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Aah. Thank you.
Would the govt be able to create any laws to counter the case being overturned?

And unrelated:
Could the Green party and Democrats form a coalition and choose the President accordingly, if the results are bad?
I'm an Indian, where we have parliamentary democracy.
Parties can form coalitions and the leader set by the coalition becomes the Prime minister and the President is not as powerful, eventhough they're technically the head of the nation.

Is it different in USA? If Trumps gains most votes, can the Greens and Democrats channel votes against him by creating a coalition?

[–] Achyu@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 1 day ago (5 children)

Look, if you don't care about LGBT folks, women who need abortions, asylum seekers, etc. you can pull that "don't care" lever

Not a person living in USA, wouldn't a coalition govt be better then, as the Roe vs Wade issue happened while the Democrats were in power?
Or are coalitions not allowed?
Or is the central govt powerless in such issues?

Didn't Castro lead the group that freed their country from the dictator Batista?
They have a very high literacy rate now. Their life expectancy is quite decent in their region.
And they have good healthcare.

All this in about 60 or so years, while being under sanctions and other crisis.

I recently saw a video on it, saying that it's true, but in tge context of US politics
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dWy8EEqXbBg

As an outsider looking at America, the vid makes sense. I saw some comments on the net say that RW Trump was the first US president to go to Nk and meet Kim rather than some LW one. I don't know whether the meetings were useful tho

Ever heard of horseshoe theory?

Yep.

Have you heard of the fish hook theory?

One must find the anti-communist happy in their prison/punishment for being despotic, because they continue to repeat the same hypothetical thing everytime?

Supertuxkart is one of the best games that I've ever played.
Mostly because it has a multiplayer mode. Much more than LAN multiplayer, it had options to map controls for the 2nd player on the same keyboard.
Used it to play with my relatives and it was fun.

It's decent and I find it useful a lot

I have Aard2-Android installed on my phone, which is a foss dictionary app. They use wiktionary as sources for some dictionaries and I use the Malayalam, ml.wiktionary.org one.
It's quite accurate and very useful as it's offline(as I'm on 3G most of the time).

You can create your own dictionary files from Kiwix Zim files, using pyglossary. I was able to do it in GCollab.

Since you're a Malayali, you must know about Bappa Beary, a Muslim trader from Kerala?

I haven't heard of it. Thank you for sharing information on it.

Regarding Sabarimala, it's a shrine for Vaavar:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vavar

refrain from eating meat, wear a black lungi and plan a long-distance pilgrimage to Sabarimala to pay visit to the celibate God Ayyappa

Yep.
No meat, no footwear, no shaving, no swearing, no alcohol or similar material etc. It's seen positively by many because it helps reduce alcoholism in some of the believers. I had a distant relative who'd be totally different during Mandalakaalam vs other times.

I've been told that he had a lowly birth, and that Brahmins are trying to appropriate this God too - this information might be incorrect though.

I've heard similar things too. That it was a tribal or buddhist diety that has been appropriated

Recently got banned in a community when I brought it up, when they talked about the latter.

I'm Indian, didn't really have to read too much(on such treaties and other stuff. We do learn about the dates, major groups involved and our own people) about WW1 and WW2 before getting on the internet forums.
But how is it in Western countries?

Also, is the Bengal famine of 1943 taught?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bengal_famine_of_1943
I only got the gravity of the situation after reading about it and seeing pictures on the net.

Are there any other events that should be more known by others, in your opinion?

I hope this is not too political. If it is, do forgive me, I'll delete this.

Edit:
Recently read about the Travancore famine of 1943, that killed around 90,000 people. It happened in my state, Kerala. But I never really knew about it.

I've recently read about it, and it seems straight forward.
Materialism makes sense and things getting resolved through the resolution/interaction of contradiction/opposing forces too.

Though curious on how it is used as a tool to analyse and resolve problems.
Especially in the lives/localities of those who study/use it.

I don't much about philosophy, so forgive if I made any wrong assumptions or if this question is weird.
Please do recommend any online sources that may help me there, in that case.

Also, would it be better to ask this in another sub, as this question maybe political?

If not favorite, ones that touched you in some way.

I'll start by mentioning some movies from my mother tongue(Malayalam of Kerala, India):

  • Mumbai Police
A crime thriller (Came out almost 2 decades ago n was very striking for the time)
  • KammaraSambhavam
Political/Historic satire/drama (The main actor has some cases on him, but the movie is quite good)
  • Kathavasheshan
  • Devasuram
Conservative sigma male upper class Kerala dude getting character development. I really liked how the transformation happened in it
  • Maheshinte Parthikaaram (Mahesh's Revenge)
    Not an action movie.

From my country, but not in my mother tongue:

  • Super Deluxe - A Tamil movie that I recently watched, quite unique
  • Enthiran (Robot), a Tamil movie
Has over the top stuff, but is fun to watch
  • Viduthalai(Liberation), another Tamil movie
  • Agent Vinod - A Hindi spy-comedy movie

The anime that I like are Hunter x Hunter, Parasyte, Samurai Flamenco, Gintama.

Especially ones that you find useful on android Firefox, as they seem to be less popular?

Recently got to know about bookmarklets due to a thread here in this community itself:
https://lemm.ee/comment/12623456
^An unrelated question: Is there some way to link comments so that they are automatically opened in home instances for eveyone, like how we can link communities and usernames currently?^

Some interesting/useful bookmarklets that I know of:

  1. Bullshit.js as mentioned in that link
  2. dotepub. It does say that data is sent to their server.
For some sites it's better than the inbuilt save as pdf option.
  3. A bookmarklet that opens the current site in G-translate
  4. Saw a bookmarklet which works like reader mode.

The freecodecamp article on bookmarklets maybe useful for those new to it(It helped me). It seems cool.
https://wiki.greasespot.net/User_Script_Hosting links to sources for userscripts. Most of them seem to be desktop-centric.

Which are your favorites? Any cool ones that you have made on your own?

  • I have recently started using RSS feeds to get news and other information. It is quite time-saving.
  • Recently found out that word could open pdfs for edits. Used to upload pdfs to websites to get it converted into some editable format. I think Libreoffice can do the same.
  • Got that spinning type of mop and mopping has become a bit easier.

The R site has such a feature, which can allow one to group posts from many communities into one feed.
With many communities on different instances with similar topics, it'd be useful to group them to avoid separate visits to each community.

Does lemmy have such an option?
If not, are there any lemmy clients that can provides a similar option?
Or are there known workarounds, maybe with the rss feeds or so?

I had tried to learn some languages using online resources on the net(freely accessible ones tho). Didn't actually commit to it with a plan.
Curious on how others went about it.

Do mention the resources that you liked/found useful.

The system launcher on my phone has a data usage that is non-zero. I've already disabled background data for it.

I use Lawnchair2, but haven't tried to disable/uninstall the system launcher because I've read somewhere that it affects gesture navigation(Is it actually so?)

I know that apps like Netguard can help, but is there a more direct solution, other than rooting?

Are there any other adb commands that are useful, hopefully that are not too dangerous?

I've recently found
adb shell pm trim-caches 99999M
Clears all/most app cache, without having to install some cache clear or use Gfiles. I don't really use it often.

Along with this, does anyone know way to troubleshoot gmail not being able to download attachments on mobile data? I've not disabled background data for that.
Or should I make a separate post on it. Or would it be too tech-supporty?

.7z seems to be good and I do recommend it to people, saying that it's better than regular zip. Have recently started using opus n webm files more.

I've also heard about jxl recently. Would be very nice to see it become popular, as it could reduce the size of my memes n screenshots folders. Faster webpage loading too.

Are there any other file formats that'll be useful to people, but isn't getting enough attention?

In the case of apps, Trebleshot seems to be good for android file sharing. I like it's web sharing option having an upload form. Helps me where I don't have to ask others to install an app to send me a file locally. Not sure about its encryption n security aspects, but I only have used it for local file sharing.

And what about other stuff similar to that, other than file formats or apps?

Recently have started exercising my neck. Not neck bridges and loaded things tho. Only safe n simple movements. Seems to be good, especially after using a monitor for some time. I think it's not much talked about, maybe because of the fear that people will overdo it?

I have it installed on HDD, on a Lenovo Ideapad 3 gaming laptop, with a nvidia GTX 1650 Ti. I have windows installed, but it's on SSD, so it probably doesn't affect.

The battery life is not so good.

  1. I have the proprietary nvidia drivers installed. In nvidia settings, I've set it to be in adaptive mode to save energy.
  2. I've installed suse-prime and set it to offload. Setting it to intel doesn't get me to the graphical interface. Is there a way to fix that?
  3. I use kde plasma and the effects and animations are turned off. I have disabled the cups.service, file indexing and other things I normally don't use.
  4. Autocpufreq is installed and tlp is not.
  5. I've also set noatime for root and home.
  6. My screen brightness and sleep settings are kept low and I normally don't use more than 20% and at night only less than 5%.

I only get around an hour to 1.5 hrs of battery time on average. Are there ways to improve that?

Also my current boot time is around a minute to 1.5 minutes. Is it ok for hdd? Or are there things that I could easily try to speed it a bit more?

Thank you, for reading all this.
