Finally, glad that information has been extracted from her. Now we can go and move on to the next person to make up stories about and harass online.

The internet, 2024.

Didn't expect that. Hopefully she'll beat it! Can't imagine trying to reconcile that you've got cancer and then the public are making up conspiracy theories about you and your husband.

William has basically just found out his dad and wife both have cancer, that's got to be tough.

[–] Oneeightnine@feddit.uk 14 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I wonder if they'd even announced it had it not been for the media frenzy over the last month or so. Can't imagine trying to shield your children from this.

[–] Devi@kbin.social 2 points 9 months ago

I'd think they'd maybe mention at some point but probably later and definitely not on video. The video was solely because of the nonsense that happened over the photo.

[–] kandoh@reddthat.com 5 points 9 months ago (1 children)

They released an official statement saying the woman had personally photoshopped her own photo because graphic design is her passion.

This really wasn't the general public's fault.

[–] Devi@kbin.social 7 points 9 months ago (2 children)

They asked the public to give her privacy while she went through a health concern. The public started claiming she was dead. Fuck the public.

[–] frazorth@feddit.uk 10 points 9 months ago (1 children)

They could always end the monarchy if they don't want attention.

[–] Devi@kbin.social -3 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Yes because it's well known that when people leave the royal family that they're left alone and not chased to their death in a tunnel in Paris.

[–] kandoh@reddthat.com 4 points 9 months ago (2 children)

Using a car accident to defend a family that sits on a 10 billion dollar gold throne and tells the public to tighten their belt during these hard times

[–] HumanPenguin@feddit.uk 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

and tells the public to tighten their belt during these hard times

Sorry. Please point me to when a member of the royal family did this?

[–] kandoh@reddthat.com 2 points 9 months ago

The particular ghoul that did that was King Charles

Don't strawman, you said they'd get privacy if they weren't royals, I showed you a very good example where that isn't the case.

[–] kandoh@reddthat.com 2 points 9 months ago

That wasn't me.

[–] kandoh@reddthat.com 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

They asked the public to give her privacy while she went through a health concern.

No they didn't, they released statements saying she was just getting her graphic design degree. Lmao

[–] Devi@kbin.social -2 points 9 months ago (1 children)

That absolutely didn't happen

[–] kandoh@reddthat.com 0 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (1 children)

They literally made her take the blame for the photoshop fuckup

[–] Devi@kbin.social -2 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Do you believe in flat earth too?

[–] kandoh@reddthat.com 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I can't imagine the sad things that needed to happen in your life to make you defend the British Royal Family on Lemmy in 2024. If you need to be a boot licker than at least suck Elon Musk off instead, still embarrassing but at least you'd have evolved past the 16th Century.

Princess Kate publicly took responsibility for the manipulated family photograph released by Kensington Palace. She acknowledged experimenting with editing and apologized for any confusion caused by the image, emphasizing that she hoped everyone celebrating had a happy Mother's Day.

Are you confused? None of that suggests she was forced to 'take the blame'.

Also, not falling for weird conspiracy theories about a woman with cancer is not 'defending the royals'.

My post, supported with citation and link to supporting article:

Princess Kate publicly took responsibility for the manipulated family photograph released by Kensington Palace.

The actual message posted from the Princess's twitter account:

Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing. I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day. C

Because he could be king far far sooner than he thinks.

[–] obinice@lemmy.world 9 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Impressive that she got from diagnosis to treatment so fast on the NHS.

[–] HeartyBeast@kbin.social 17 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

Having just been through a prostate scare with the NHS, I’m not - particularly.

Contacted the GP and was booked for blood test within 3 days. Saw the GP post-results for an examination 4 days later, was at the hospital for a CT scan 3 days after fhat. Follow-up conversation with the consultant 2 days later.

Luckily, I got the all clear - but if someone has an obstructive abdominal condition they are going to be in surgery pretty quickly and as a matter of course, the removed tissue will have a biopsy. Being put on chemo within a month absolutely doesn’t surprise me. The NHS is under severe stress but when the shit hits the fan, it usually comes through.

[–] JadenSmith@sh.itjust.works 7 points 9 months ago (1 children)

With the focus on politics we tend to forget that there are human beings behind the role.

Cancer is shit, and I hope she gets through it well. I don't say that as someone with Anarchism tattoos (I have two), I say it as a human being. Like goddamn guys.

[–] Oneeightnine@feddit.uk 6 points 9 months ago

Totally with you. I'd do away with the monarchy in a heartbeat if I could..but I'll never cheer on someone going through a rough time in this way. Hope he makes a full recovery, same with Princess Katherine.

[–] closure1170@beehaw.org 3 points 9 months ago (3 children)

I may have missed it, but it doesn't seem like they said the type of cancer. Not a great sign.

[–] Dave@lemmy.nz 9 points 9 months ago (1 children)

It says she expects to make a full recovery.

In the video she says that she underwent abdominal surgery and at the time they thought it wasn't cancerous, but subsequent tests showed that it was. And they she was recommended to have preventative chemo.

Sounds to me like they removed an abdominal tumour, it was probably successfully removed, and now she's getting chemo just in case there's any spreading or any they missed.

[–] closure1170@beehaw.org 4 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Yeah saw that- there's just a lot of tumors that can appear in the abdomen

[–] Dave@lemmy.nz 1 points 9 months ago

Haha yes, there are a lot of organs hiding out there.

[–] Pietson@kbin.social 6 points 9 months ago

I don't know, I just don't think she's comfortable with fighting this battle in public. Considering how wild some conspiracy theories were getting, this info was probably just released to shut people up.

[–] adam@doomscroll.n8e.dev 3 points 9 months ago

The news article/statement I read has it related to major abdominal surgery from back in January. So none of the good kinds. Not that any cancer is good.

[–] autotldr@lemmings.world 3 points 9 months ago

This is the best summary I could come up with:

My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment," said the princess.

Catherine and Prince William are now not expected to appear with the Royal Family on Easter Sunday, and there won't be any early return to official duties for the princess.

The palace also said Prince William's sudden absence from a memorial service in late February was because of the discovery of Catherine's cancer diagnosis.

The couple have faced intense public speculation and a social media frenzy about her health, since her operation in January.

In her video statement, she spoke about the support from her family: "Having William by my side is a great source of comfort and reassurance too.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said Catherine had shown "tremendous bravery" with her statement, wishing her a "speedy recovery".

I'm sure she's getting the best treatment on our dime, the parasite. I wouldn't wish cancer on anyone.

[–] HeartyBeast@kbin.social 13 points 9 months ago (1 children)

“I wouldn’t wish cancer on anyone, but I don’t think some people should get NHS treatment”

[–] qdJzXuisAndVQb2@lemm.ee 7 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I think she should get NHS treatment. I'm quite sure she'll be getting cutting-edge private treatment partly paid for by my taxes thay are gifted to her for marrying the right guy.

[–] HeartyBeast@kbin.social -2 points 9 months ago (1 children)

The family are independently wealthy and most of the money from the Sovereign Grant goes on official business. Indeed, for the last couple of years- IIRC - expenditure has exceeded the grant. I think it’s pretty unlikely that much of your money is going on any private chemo.

[–] qdJzXuisAndVQb2@lemm.ee -1 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (1 children)

Mmmm royal boot.

Kick these benefit cheats out, no more welfare scrounging.

[–] HeartyBeast@kbin.social 2 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

If you had said antdemocratic, classist, unrepresentative or elitist, you would have a strong position. Going with ‘benefit scroungers’ just makes you look silly.

[–] Cypher@lemmy.world 4 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

I wouldn’t wish cancer on anyone. I also wouldn’t wish royalty on anyone either…

[–] CritFail@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago

Someone getting cancer treatment in a timely manner should not be the news. A third of patients, over 100,000 people, currently wait over 62 days to start treatment. She managed to get care within about 4 weeks.

She is a person and this will be a hard time for her personally, but far, far worse outcomes are being inflicted on people just as deserving of life-saving treatment due to their lowly standing in society.
