Thom Tillis also suggested that Canadians should not criticize the lack of a universal public healthcare system in the U.S.

I'm getting hints that lunacy is contagious.

This has long been the problem with NATO requirements - the US has expected the money to funnel to them. If anything, Canada's NATO money should be spent in Canada. Isn't the US way behind in their contributions to the UN?
Plus NATO wouldn't need as much spending if the US wasn't continually instigating wars around the world to appease their oligarchs. Has there been a war anywhere in the world in the last 80 years that didn't have CIA fingerprints all over it?

Gangster state.

Who exactly are we paying this money too, Thom? Are we just writing a 300b cheque to the Canadian military?

[–] Lautrebeacon@lemmy.ca 3 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

I think he means the other way around. 300bil from Canada to the USA...

[–] grte@lemmy.ca 1 points 5 hours ago

I'm sure that's what he thinks. But considering the supposed budget shortfall is money we didn't spend on our own military, I'd say Tillis either doesn't understand what NATO is supposed to be, or he understands very clearly but can't be bothered to keep the fact that it's a protection racket on the down low.

It's so sad watching the decline of their civilization.

Not that sad. The poor were already fucked before, now we're going to see the middle and rich self-immolate on purpose.

Grab a beer and some popcorn and watch the show. It's going to be spectacular.

Like some sort of protection racket.

The us already spends more per capita on Healthcare than we do. Eat my entire ass Thom

[–] CompactFlax@discuss.tchncs.de 23 points 1 day ago

It’s not a zero sum game but American politicians and healthcare companies want you to believe that.

[–] Toto@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago

A US senator should know better that it’s not a binary choice between health and military that got them in their mess.

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 18 points 1 day ago

Maybe USA should consider not instigating stuff for oil and regime change everywhere.

[–] ikidd@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

Maybe we could spend 1% of that making his life miserable
