a few weeks ago the cat jumped up on the couch behind me to start gagging right over my head. it was a whole new level of Audacity that I never even knew existed.

my dog wakes me up standing over my face and gagging sometimes

lovely way to start the day

[–] MyNameIsRichard@lemmy.ml 13 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Well it would be worse if you didn't wake up with the dog standing over your face and gagging!

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 6 points 4 days ago

agreed. I've stepped in puke on the way to the bathroom first thing before my eyes are even cleared up and it's not pleasant

[–] M137@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago

Well, they see us collect their various excrements so I'm pretty sure some cats think we do that for eating later or whatever else. So they're actually trying to be nice.

[–] kamenlady@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

Thank you, i loved picturing this.

[–] MyNameIsRichard@lemmy.ml 24 points 5 days ago (1 children)

One of mine used to come in from the garden, puke on the carpet, and go back out again. I always figured it was where he felt safe at a very vulnerable moment.

[–] 5too@lemmy.world 13 points 4 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Similarly, I figure our dogs choose the carpet over the hardwood because they don't want to worry about slipping during a puke. Even better on something like a couch or bed.

[–] Ephera@lemmy.ml 27 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Is it maybe a burying instinct, like they have with their poop? The carpet might seem more like grass or lose ground, where it is possible to bury it. You don't really want the puke rotting away on the stone ground of your lion's den, do ya?

[–] AnarchoEngineer@lemmy.dbzer0.com 20 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I heard that it might be that they want the traction, like something they can dig their claws into while they convulse

[–] Nurse_Robot@lemmy.world 20 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Whatever the reason, I hate it sooooo much. My apartment is 90% hardwood or tile, and my cat has puked on the small patches of carpet 30/30 times

[–] sharkfucker420@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago

My cat puked on the banister to our loft in a studio apartment. This is the only place she has puked yet and I cannot explain why

[–] kukui@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 4 days ago

I don't know about others but my cat does not try to bury puke. She immediately wants to get as far as from it as possible and will actively avoid the area until the puke has been cleaned up.

[–] RBWells@lemmy.world 16 points 4 days ago (1 children)

My dog - she was hacking and I let her out, she didn't puke. Let her back in and she hurled all over the rug so I let her out, she seemed fine after puking and cleaned it then let her back in when the rug was cleaned and she puked on it again.

I threw out the rug.

[–] poweruser@lemmy.sdf.org 15 points 5 days ago (1 children)

My old place had hardwood floors so the best place to barf, naturally, was in my slippers

[–] idunnololz@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago

At that point id just buy a tiny"puke" rug and change it out every few years.

[–] asteriskeverything@lemmy.world 10 points 5 days ago (3 children)

Oh my goodness the art is so adorable! Does anyone know the artist?

[–] ChunkMcHorkle@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago

Akshara Ashok @happyfluffcomics

Sorry should have linked them

[–] golden_zealot@lemmy.ml -1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I think they may have taken the idea from a different artist without crediting them (or vice versa, I haven't checked the dates on which comic is older).

This is the first time I saw this same joke.

Thank you for your reply. That is also a really cute comic!! To be fair though; this is just a universal cat owner thing and I've seen this joke made in various mediums over the years. It's a cat behavior as universal as "if I fits I sits" ^^

[–] bonsai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 4 days ago

Our cat just puked on the bed blankets again... Why does she always pick the bed

[–] MissJinx@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

Yesterday I was sleeping and felt my cat "shaking" trying to puke lol just threw her to the floor poor baby. I'm feeling horrible but didn't had to change my sheets at 3am

[–] Oppopity@lemmy.ml 3 points 4 days ago

I thought that pot plant was doing a goatse at first.

[–] TheColonel@reddthat.com 8 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Cats do this.

It would be far preferable for them to puke on the tile.

They do not.

[–] RampantParanoia2365@lemmy.world 0 points 4 days ago (1 children)

But he's still puking on tile.

[–] TheColonel@reddthat.com 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I believe that’s an egg-shaped rug he’s puking on.

[–] RampantParanoia2365@lemmy.world 0 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Jesus fucking Christ, this is the most poorly designed comic I've ever seen. An egg shaped carpet. Fucking naturally. And why is he jumping off the tile counter to end up back on the counter, but now with a rug on it? Was this drawn with AI?

[–] TheColonel@reddthat.com 3 points 3 days ago

You ain’t gonna hear any disagreements from me, I was only here to clarify.

[–] lapislazuli@sopuli.xyz 1 points 4 days ago

Obviously they make a run for the carpet. How would you like to have puke splashing on your paws? /j

[–] golden_zealot@lemmy.ml -3 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

Hmm... This is pretty similar to this post I saved 2 years ago.

Similar enough that I feel like it might be derivative / a redrawing of this comic without accreditation by the artist.

The only thing that connects these two comics is the theme that cats can regurgitate. It’s a pretty common life experience. Like, it’s not even the same panels, nor the same location.

Get over yourself.

[–] golden_zealot@lemmy.ml -4 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

I felt like more than the theme was common. The first panel and second panel are quite similar in that that both use "puke" as their term of choice over vomit, throw-up, hurl, spew, etc. In the first panel, both cats are stationary and making their statement about needing to puke. In the second panel, both cats are in motion while making a statement about needing to be in motion.

In the final panel of this comic and the final 2 of the one I linked, both cat's make a statement of relief of having "made it" in time to throw up. The joke is the same, and is delivered almost identically, except the other comic delivers it better by splitting the last pane up into 2 in order to reveal the location.

The largest difference I see here is that the comic in this thread cuts out the additional work of having 3 extra panels without the text.

The theme, choice of words, and when those words are spoken in these comics align.

Furthermore, this has nothing to do with myself, I have no idea why you would say "get over yourself" when I am not talking about me. I can only assume you chose to say that to be intentionally inflammatory.

If you are that offended by me seeing more similarities between two comics than yourself, then I have no idea what to tell you.

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

No, I’m offended by you baselessly accusing an innocent comic artist of blatant plagiarism because they made a comic about an extremely common theme. Your evidence is that they both use the word “puke”? As if that’s some wild coincidence to use the most commonly used word for something? Is English your first language?
