I finally remembered to do this on a Sunday!

my cousin came back from holiday and brought me some fermented shark as joke/delicacy gift. It's rotting shark flesh steeped in ammonia, and smells and tastes like piss. Deciding I couldn't stomach it raw, I thought frying it would improve the flavour.

Big mistake. The ammonia steamed off the frying pan and soaked into the kitchen ceiling. The smell just spread everywhere. My kitchen currently smells like a nursing home, and I have the window open 24/7 in these freezing temps just to get rid of the smell.

I hate the smell of fish at the best of times, so my thoughts are with you...

You need one of those air freshener things they advertise on TV... get them in to prove their products work. Take them to small claims if it doesn't and use the money to replace the kitchen ceiling...?

now that's a scheme I can get behind

Really decent weekend after a pretty stressful week. We went trick or treating on Saturday with some other parents and got invited back for tea after. Felt very refreshing to be around adults and socialise for a change. I tend to be a little isolated in recent years, didn't realise how much I missed being able to just sit and chat, pet a dog, be myself for a while.

I hope we made a decent impression, it'd be great to finally know some parents who can hold up their end of a conversation.

A bit stressful.

The company I work for is running out of money and I think it's likely we're going to get split and sold off. I think I'll have a job, but I've got no clue what the future is for all the people I've hired and work with. I also expect it's unlikely I'll enjoy the next company as much as this one.

All I can do is wait and see what happens, and that sucks. I'm not high enough to be involved in any of it (unless somebody has questions about what we actually do).

I'm in pretty much the same boat. It's a US-based company and they don't want to keep the UK subsidiary through which I'm working, but my boss convinced them to keep me on as a 1099 employee. So far I haven't had much of a chance to meet the new bosses or talk turkey, but at least I know someone else who works there already, and they went to bat for me as well. Good to be appreciated at least. Good luck to both of us, it'd be nice to have a little more certainty and stability.

It’s been nice to finally get a brief holiday. We came to North Wales on Thursday and will stay also for this week. We did a day trip today to Baddgelert on the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways. Steam locomotive and all! I recommend you travel with them if you get the opportunity.

I love North Wales. The aquaducts are amazing in their own right, and Southstack lighthouse is awesome

Black Rock Sands beach tomorrow. Our dogs will love it. Maybe Goleudy Tŵr Mawr on Wednesday.

Enjoy! You've got a bit unlucky with the weather though!

[–] JohnSmith@feddit.uk 2 points 5 days ago

One could say that, but I don’t care one bit! I’m having a wonderful time and even enjoy walking in the wind and rain with our dogs.

Not bad as I had a 4 day week... trouble is, I'm now facing a 5-day week... with an extra day of work to catch up on.

And clock's going back... nice in the morning, but night comes too soon

I had a long span of about 12 weeks earlier in the year of not working 5 days a week due to bank holidays and taking time off. Was a shock to the system to do 5 days again!

I really hate these early dark evenings, can we skip forward to spring already?

[–] PhobosAnomaly@feddit.uk 1 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Yeah alright cheers mate, how was yours?

Nipped up to Dundee to check out the new V&A Museum, the kids loved it. Spent .ost of the week in Cumbria with work, getting blown about like a burst bag. Just got in from a cheeky 5k in the pissing rain with the eldest lad, just so I can pre-emptively burn the calories for a bottle of wine this evening.

How's your running going?

[–] blackn1ght@feddit.uk 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

It was fine cheers, honestly pretty uneventful.

I started playing Satisfactory and have been pretty hooked (I was up till 2am Sunday morning, after the clocks had gone back) playing, I haven't played a game like that for a loooooong time (like 15+ years). My son loves it too so it's been great talking with him about various strategies!

I haven't heard of the V&A museum! What's in it? Glad the kids had fun, that's pretty much always the metric for success as a parent!

Running is OK. I'm still carrying some kind of calf soreness that flares up after a couple of runs a week. It's a bit demotivating and I really should see someone about it, but... I'm lazy.

[–] PhobosAnomaly@feddit.uk 1 points 6 days ago

Sore one. Ever thought about changing your hoof to a different type? If your gait measurement suggests that you're overpronating or supinating, thought about moving to a neutral cushioned shoe (or the other way round)? I'd been overpronating for years but my own gait seemed to sort itself out and now I stick to neutrals.

I'd love to get into games like Satisfactory - but I know fine well I'd get a mega unhealthy fixation with it and I'd have no job or no family by the end of the week 😂

Did you like the Whale?

I bent half the steel used for the sculpture...

[–] PhobosAnomaly@feddit.uk 2 points 1 week ago

Mate that's awesome. I saw it and it was dead sound, but I went away from the gardens and went to the Desperate Dan statue from there.

After that, went to the Lemmings statue and that was cool as fuck!

[–] Cyber@feddit.uk 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

This one? wow... and I have problems making a hanging basket bracket!

[–] Palerider@feddit.uk 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Saw it myself last time I was up in Scotland. First time I'd seen it since it left our factory before it was put together.

[–] Cyber@feddit.uk 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Job well done 👍🏻

(Just in time for the yoofs to climb all over it and damage it 😉)

[–] Palerider@feddit.uk 2 points 5 days ago

I've already been payed, so I don't care... 😂😜😝
