A Washington Post poll found that 61% of US Jews believe Israel has committed war crimes in Gaza, and 39% say it is committing genocide. Among the broader American public, 45% told the Brookings Institution they believe Israel is committing genocide, while a Quinnipiac survey in August found half of US voters share that view, including 77% of Democrats.

This is an important shift.

Antizionism is not antisemitism

Loud and clear

[–] batman0730@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Guessing Seinfeld is not among them

[–] apfelwoiSchoppen@lemmy.world 26 points 1 day ago (1 children)

All antisemites according to the IHRA definition of antisemitism.

Well, we're going to have to ignore things like anti-semitism and islamophobia, when they're just buzz words used to protect religions when they are genociding other religions, and innocent civilians that got in the way.

It sucks that there are things like nazis that go around trying to kill eveyrthing that isn't them. The cause is religion, and every single religion has religious extremists willing to kill all other religions.

[–] apfelwoiSchoppen@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago

They are real and shouldn't be ignored. Words have meaning but we shouldn't broaden the meaning to include defending the state of Israel. Israel doesn't speak for folks of the Jewish faith and vise versa.

[–] mrdown@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

why all those secular countries keep supporting Israel settler colonialism then? You don't care about anybody do you? Real antisemitism and islamophobia exists

Add ethnicities to that list, which is the main driver here, although religious Zionism is present and growing. The Nazis weren't particularly pious either,

Gosh, stop being such an antimarmite or whatever.

Thank you. I imagine it's not easy for them doing that

that's like saying it's brave for muslim figures to denounce ISIS.

I'm grateful for them don't get me wrong and btw sanctions were the only thing that ended aparthied in South Africa:

https://youtube.com/watch?v=hha6eL5-pbU&t=5m53s

while Israel's aparthied and ethnic cleansing is powered by the most powerful economies of the world. The question is when are the world most powerful countries going to act? They sanctioned Russia and kicked them out of all international sports for way less. Gaza exposed the hypocracy of the US and western democracies claims of the international law

"Inconceivable"

Israel, probably

[–] DaMummy@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Wonder if they're gonna have sympathy for Muslims now, after saying that regular Muslims need to stand up to the extremist Muslims, for years, and now see how difficult it is to stand up to this bullshit. Wonder if they're gonna have sympathy for Germans now, and see how easy it is to fall for a Reichstag fire event.

[–] CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org 6 points 1 day ago

I'm guessing that these Jews always understood anybody could be sucked into fascism. The ones that were willing to reduce the Holocaust and WWII to German ethnicity aren't going to have a problem reducing Israel-Palestine to Palestinian ethnicity either.

"Never get involved in a land war in Asia...err...Palestine"

[–] tatann@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Palestine is in Asia

There's probably a Rule of Acquisition about that.

[–] CluckN@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

They should make a sequel to Hidden Figures called Jewish figures.

[–] DreamAccountant@lemmy.world -3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yes, genocidal religions always act so quickly when they're busy genociding other religions. So, they wait until genocide has been going on for years, and when it slows down, "Oh, we're so peaceful, watch us call for an end to the genocide!".

Bullshit. This is why we can't expect religions to hold themselves to any standards of humanity. They lie. They manipulate. They genocide. They apologize while they're genociding, and say it'll never happen again. But they haven't said that it'll never happen again, because they know it will.

Everyone knows religions will continue to genocide in the name of their stupid, fictional gods.

[–] chaogomu@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago

To be fair here, some of the names on the list have been loudly calling it a genocide or ethnic cleansing for years, some were loud about it years before October 7th.
