My gen x ass was coming to post this exact thing. Well done.

Me: I wanna jump off a bridge

My biological mother: Want me to drive you there?

💀

I made a millennial joke in front of my coworkers after a two month break. (They have said waaaay worse). Anyway they HR’d me and I almost got a free vacation to the grippy sock hotel. Now I keep my mouth shut. They’ll never see it coming! Assholes.

[–] turdcollector69@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago (1 children)

What was the joke and what are they not going to see coming?

[–] Beebabe@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

“Probably better to die than pretend like I can afford a house before I’m 90” or something. Not those exact words.

[–] MrScottyTay@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That end is a bit ominous, you alright?

[–] Beebabe@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

I have a reason I have to get up. I joked about being able to buy a house before I died. Not that I want to get up. But I’m obligated.

Gen X: "First time?" meme.

[–] sirico@feddit.uk 53 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Generation self defined by apathy and nihilism gets overlooked?

[–] yakko@feddit.uk 42 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Generation "Mentions not getting mentioned any time people talk about generations"

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 16 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Generation bitches and whines about being ignored while being the largest voting bloc behind the return of fascism

[–] yakko@feddit.uk 15 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I just wish most gen x were actually disaffected and alienated and not just constantly demanding relevance. You were a latchkey kid and you have better references than us, get over it.

Right here, right now. Watching the world wake from history.

Where's Gen X?

Oh right. Forgotten.

[–] PugJesus@piefed.social 29 points 2 days ago

As my mother would say, "Whatever."

[–] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 18 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (5 children)

The true forgotten generation. But Gen X are eating popcorn while the rest are having generation war.

Edit: lol at people who are downvoting and taking my comment seriously. It's a jab at Gen X not being mentioned at all in mainstream discourse of generation fight amongst boomers, millenials and zoomers. I don't know what nerves I have hit but I am owning it.

[–] umbrella@lemmy.ml 17 points 2 days ago (7 children)

the generation war is not real, just distraction from the class war.

While I agree that it is a distraction from the real war at large, the class war, I do want to point out that it very much is real, as you have actual people out there who argue about stupid shit like this. Sad, but that's humans for ya.

Its not like most of us care we are not mentioned in the same place these losers are.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 16 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Exactly the point of GenX, please keep ignoring us. It's why we dress in black.

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Is that the reason? I just prefer not to wear light colors that get visibly dirty so easily.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 days ago

We have talked too long. Back to the batcave.

[–] IzzyJ@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

And this is why we don't

[–] Preventer79@sh.itjust.works 32 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

Every generation thinks they invented dark and surreal humor and without fail people who should know better act likes its some new and unique thing... it's more of an anomaly IMHO if a generation doesn't do this.

[–] MummysLittleBloodSlut@lemmy.blahaj.zone 22 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Yeah but instead of joking about suicide like a normal person, boomers write confusingly veiled songs about it and pretend they're family friendly.

Looking at you, David Bowie! Space Oddity isn't for children!

[–] AnarchistArtificer@slrpnk.net 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I feel like Boomers' jokes about hating their spouse is thinly veiled suicidality jokes. Like, they're giving big "I did everything I was meant to and I hate my life" energy

I guess so, but blaming your sadness on someone you promised to love is a dick move if they never did anything wrong, and most wives never did anything wrong

Dark humor comes and goes in cultural waves, it seems.

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 17 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Just gonna put on my plaid shirt and strum mournfully on a guitar now.

Pretty sure their leading cause of death is suicide, just like the millennials. Although millennials are going to be getting old enough soon that heart problems will probably take over at some point.
