"a suspected immigrant"

Coming to the US is now a crime. I hope everyone is paying attention.

Most of us are, but the Canadian government still isn't. Here's the travel advisory page where they categorize it as "green" risk and say

United States - Take normal security precautions

https://travel.gc.ca/destinations/united-states

Back in July the CBC reported:

Global Affairs Canada said it's aware of roughly 55 Canadians in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody, though it said that the numbers can fluctuate.

On the Australian site too.

It's purely geo-politics, and I hate it.

You're out of your mind if you enter into the United States as a foreigner, from where I'm sitting.

Our current leadership is a disgrace. Regardless of political leaning, Carney is letting Canada down.

Being in the US is now grounds for arrest

[–] Doorbook@lemmy.world 31 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Again useless news title. This passive voice is good for academic writing not news articles.

[–] Ceedoestrees@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I lose my mind over this, too.

ICE Agents Attack Journalists, is accurate

Confrontation with ICE Agents Ends with One Journalist in Hospital, is still accurate.

This title makes it sound like the journalist tripped and fell on their way to bother some ICE agents.

Everyone should be arming themselves and everyone they know for what's coming. I don't pretend to know exactly what's coming and exactly what it will look like, but you will definitely want to be armed.

Anyone have a non paywalled version? Started reading it only to find you have to subscribe to the Atlantic

Amazingly, reader mode in LibreWolf still gets around paywalls generally. Can't say if it also works in regular Firefox

I’m honestly curious when people are gonna start actually ambushing and executing these ICEcubes, because they’re making it pretty obvious that they’re clear and present dangers to civil society, and generally enemies of perfectly normal and fully law abiding citizens (not to mention the vast majority of absolutely harmless undocumented immigrants that are being targeted as scapegoats).

[–] mhague@lemmy.world 28 points 2 days ago (11 children)

Well if people start executing ICE I'm not going to say anything about it.

It's like how you aren't legally required to render aid in California. If I saw a wrecked car with a maga bumper sticker, then I didn't see a wrecked car ;)

[–] OldChicoAle@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

I take mental note of the fascists in my neighborhood (Trump flags, thin blue line flags, let's go Brandon stickers, don't tread on me crap, etc). I live in the middle of a fire risk zone in California. If there's a fire, I'm not helping the fascists evacuate. They voted for crooks that don't believe in science and climate change so they can sleep in the bed they made. That bed being a grave.

They're basically a far-right militia at this point.

I too am surprised not to have heard of ambushes. Maybe their tip line is so swampped with BS protest tips, that they don't even check the tips. Without that, there isn't much of a way to know where they will be. Which means at least one person in ICE is probably smart.

That said... killing federal officers probably isn't a great plan. But if you could incapacitate them somehow, and like sharpie thier foreheads or something, that would be pretty funny. And of course take a photo with thier mask off...

26 Federal Plaza

That building houses immigration services. They are attacking people coming to scheduled appointments.

Worst of the worst

Looking for self-defense classes for my SO. Sure, it’s illegal to fight back, but I mean it mostly to minimize their attack. Also, encouraging them to do daily calisthenics. Fortunately they’ve always been athletic so it’s not a huge encouragement.

We’re not their target yet, but I’ve no doubt that soon everyone will be.

[–] njm1314@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago

It's going to be illegal for a lot of us to even exist soon. Might as well fight back.

It's not illegal to fight back, this is literally what the second amendment is for.

Going for the balls and throat is always a good self defense option.

But honestly, unless you're training very regularly, the training in those classes will be forgotten once the adrenaline kicks in. For most people it needs to be committed to muscle memory to use in a panic situation.

Truly I want someone to just use their second amendment right in response to something like this

[–] ThunderWhiskers@lemmy.world 153 points 2 days ago (7 children)

It's coming. They're officallt trying to "declare war" on American cities. There is going to be violent backlash, and unfortunately that's exactly what they want.

[–] Glifted@lemmy.world 91 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Yeah, I kinda think they're trying to spark a civil war. They believe they will win and then they will "purge" everyone who opposes them.

[–] Vespair@lemmy.zip 15 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I don't believe they think they'll win, but winning isn't the goal, doing irreparable damage to America is the point. The entire goal has always been to hurt America at the behest of foreign masters, the most effective way to do that is just to ignite the powder keg of political divide that already exist.

Funny. I think the same thing would happen to MAGATs, Klanners, and the 1%.

As ever, I won't start the fight, but I intend to be the one who walks away from it. Preferably with other minorities.

There's no way out of it now. Either bend over and take the fascism, or fight for your freedom.

Peaceful protesting isn't going to do it, and good luck thinking elections are going to matter. Look what they're currently doing to the Democrat that just won the House seat. Refusing to swear them in.

We will have to kill Nazis again. If you don't, you'll have a boot on your neck till they drag you off to the next concentration camp.

[–] kbobabob@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 day ago

I hear parts of the US are "war ravaged" already.

[–] Mynameisallen@lemmy.zip 30 points 2 days ago (3 children)

I mean I don’t really know what other response one could give? “Let’s drum circle this bitch out?” The only other response I could imagine is a general strike, which I’m all for but doubt will happen
