Mictecacihuatl, Lady of the Dead, is the link between the living and the deceased. She holds our teyollia, the spirit of our personality and our creativity, and purifies it so it can return to the Earth in the shape of a new being. Also called Mictlancihuatl, she is the ruler of the land of the dead. She is honored on Dia de Muertos, and is a manifestation of La Santa Muerte. A work of nahua (or Aztec) tradition.

Mictecacihuatl is the female deity associated with death in many of Mexico's indigenous cultures. In addition to welcoming us into the afterlife, she is the protector of some and the source of countless legends related to the underworld. Learn about her history, her powers, and the fate of those who encounter the powerful lady of Mictlán.

Known as the lady of the dead, the lady who cuts the umbilical cord, or simply the lady of death, Mictecacihuatl is the goddess who rules the other world and to whom some will have to answer sooner or later.

Together with her husband, the lord of death Mictlantecuhtli, Mictecacihuatl welcomes souls who died naturally to Mictlán, to watch over their bones and watch over their sleep for all eternity.

Furthermore, her power extends throughout the land of the dead and even into the world of the living, as she is capable of sending blessings, curses, and messages from her dimension in the afterlife. Of the two rulers of the underworld, Mictecacihuatl seems to be the more flexible of the two deities, as she is the one who gives the deceased permission to return from Mictlán, a gesture that does not go unnoticed on the earthly plane, as the celebration of the dead in pre-Hispanic cultures was an honor to this goddess.

I had a dream the other night where I was in my house (not actually where I live, but my "house" for the dream's narrative purpose) and I happened to discover a whole new room I didn't know existed. It was set up exactly like a restaurant - multiple booths and tables, all with matching tablecloths and dinnerware, an overall fancy restaurant vibe. But it wasn't an actual restaurant, just a room set up to look like one. Since then I've been thinking a lot about it. Now if I win the lottery, I will build a modest house but it has to have a "restaurant room" in it.

I love those dreams. I had a dream as a kid where my school had this hidden area next to some storage closets that was a very fancy foyer with spiral staircases and a grand piano.

i once had a dream where two adjacent rooms in my house, with just a regular doorway between them, instead had a huge expanse of rainforest in between with a rope bridge to the other room

as far as i could tell the rest of the house was still shaped normally, it just had some house of leaves shit in the middle

The world's largest Hindu temple is in Cambodia (It's Angkor Wat). The second largest is in New Jersey. Or in other words, the largest Hindu temple that serves prinarily as a Hindu temple is in New Jersey.
This isn't useful knowledge, but I just found out.

Found out that the engine light in my car wasn't caused by low coolant - a rodent got into my hood and chewed on the wires!

It probably took shelter in my car during one of the recent bouts of rain, found a nest and stuff all in there. I guess that's part of living right next to a national forest with all the wildlife as my neighbors.

I recently found out that women are better at masking than men, I have no choice but to assume all women are on the spectrum until proven otherwise (impossible).

How dud you deal with button mash parts in games? I used the spoon trick (hold a tea spoon against the button with your thumb and rub it back and forth, worked best on Playstation controllers)

Watching Kitchen Nightmares (UK), in the Fenwick arms episode I’m pretty sure Brian is on the spectrum.

Hey, Konami, make a castlevania game that rips off Dark Souls. Im not even a fan of Dark Souls but it's basically a combination of the classic and Iga style of metroid but also 3D. It'd be easy as hell to do and make at least some money.

There seems to be this idea that Heavy Metal is a subgenre of Metal that ive seen here and there over the years. Metal is just a shorter way of saying heavy metal isn't it? What bands would be considered Heavy Metal if it's a distinct subgenre?

[–] Hermes@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago

According to wikipedia, heavy metal is a term that should be avoided, due to confusion and lack of scientific basis. Some metals, such as aluminium are generally not considered to be "heavy metals" thus, I would argue that heavy metals are a sub group of metals. Mercury, Lead, and Bismuth are the most commonly cited heavy metals, and heavy metals are only found at or below band (period) 4. Hope this helps!

[–] AernaLingus@hexbear.net 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Since heavy metal is an older term, I associate it with the classic bands from the 70s (Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, early Judas Priest, etc.), but it's mostly vibes-based.

edit: just remembered that Heavy Metal Parking Lot exists

Technically metal is short for heavy metal, just like hardcore is short for hardcore punk and rock is short for rock and roll. But if you say the whole thing, people are usually gonna think of the early bands, and not what those genre become.

When I think heavy metal, I think metal that isn't speed, thrash, prog, power, black, death, folk, doom, or whatever else. Like just metal metal, classic shit.

Next to the screen for the self check out there's a smaller screen that shows the customer camera footage of themselves, presumably as an anti-theft mechanism. However when I went to the store today, i couldn't see myself on that monitor. So either the camera broke and they showed a still image of the background. Or I have turned into a vampire and should put the garlic back.

::: spoiler spoilers for Hollow Knight, not Silksong

I beat Troupe Master Grimm for the charm slot. I feel like it was a pretty doable fight after getting the patterns down, but I still took lots of damage. Would it make more sense to try Nightmare King Grimm for a while before taking on Radiance? Or is it such a huge difficulty jump I may as well do Radiance first? So far I have gotten to the final phase of Radiance about 5 times.

I was always kind of surprised as a kid at the gap in popularity between digimon and pokemon, digimon’s character design was always pretty dope.

‘Genocide denial’ is one of the typical excuses for defederating from Lemmygrad.ml, and the irony is that this topic would have reached a much wider audience if only so many instances had never agreed to defederate from us.

Is there any kind of RSS reader for Instagram? I use flufi.me to anonymously view posts, but there are so many orgs that primarily use Instagram to inform the public of events and I'm not interested in making one. It'd be nice if I could get a feed from multiple accounts to be able to just add stuff to my local calendar.

Bibliogram used to have that, but the main instance disabled it (it was too costly, and they hit the rate limit too often), but the whole project shut down.

Watching House MD makes me want to be really really good at something the way House and his team are. I've never really been ambitious otherwise but I think it would be really cool to be really good at something. I don't even know what

Well, Samsung removed color-coding in their reminders widget in the latest update so I may as well just figure out how to set up synchronized reminders across devices using FOSS apps.
