The US-led Ukrainian peace negotiations were indeed a last ditch attempt at Minsk 3: freezing the war only to thaw it out a few years down the line. Russia didn't bite. The US recognizes that Ukraine will not survive another year, so the next few months are all about boosting Ukrainian confidence and morale. They will be squeezed for all they're worth in terms of weakening Russia, before being thrown to the wolves (or, bears).

Long-range strikes and Tomahawk missiles are the new thing. Doesn't really matter whether they get them or not. It's all about keeping them fighting and looking to the future for as long as possible.

I think the US wants Russia to be forced to conquer the entire country. Not only the battles would be costly. So would the occupation.

You already know the reasons, house prices falling, poor economic outlook led to reduced consumer confidence bla bla, the economy is still in the midst of on transitioning from infrastructure building to emerging private sectors etc.

The 5% GDP growth is simply not translating into wage growth for the working people (and the property market bursting further affects middle class spending). This shouldn’t be surprising if most of the GDP growth came from more investment rather than fixing the wealth inequality issue.

Again reiterating my position that the government should simply run a deficit to ensure full employment with jobs guarantee program and directly raising the income of the working class instead of shifting the reliance to the private sector to achieve transformative breakthrough to save the economy.

The latter might be a good strategy for a small economy (like Taiwan, Denmark etc.) but you cannot possibly think breakthroughs in a few high-tech industries can save an economy of 1.4 billion people without dealing with the fundamental issues that are causing wealth disparity.

NYT: How Chinese Weapons Transformed a War Between Two Neighbors

New images of China's "J-50" (no official designation) 5.5/6th gen fighter demonstrator aircraft have emerged. This is different to the "J-36" demonstrator, which has the massive air intake on top and side by side seating for two pilots.

The J-50:

The most interesting things to note are the 2D thrust vectoring nozzles similar to the US F-22. And most notably, no heads up display (HUD) and two visible "dimples" behind the cockpit for distributed aperture system (DAS), very similar to the US F-35. This is the first Chinese bomber or fighter aircraft without a HUD, the "J-36", J-35 and J-20 all have HUDs. It is very likely that just like the F-35, the J-50 has a helmet mounted display (HMD) that allows the pilot to "see through" the aircraft using information from the DAS' sensors, giving the pilot an unobstructed 360° view through the HMD, vastly improving situational awareness. This is not surprising as other Chinese 5th generation aircraft like the J-20 do feature DAS sensors, even if they still use HUDs and don't have as advanced HMDs. So it's logical that China would progress to eliminating the HUD and towards advanced HMDs, like the USA did with the F-35.

Unique to the J-50 is it's all moving wingtips and lambda wing combination with a tailless design. Very innovative way to control pitch and roll in combination with thrust vectoring and the other control surfaces. You can see it in action here.

And like all Chinese 5th generation aircraft, (J-20 and J-35) there's a visible electro-optical targeting system below the cockpit, again similar to the F-35. Notably, the J-36 lacks this.

The J-50 is very much the "real deal" for what one would expect from a 5.5 or 6th generation fighter aircraft. Lots of advanced technology on show. Unlike the J-36 (which I think is more of a "bomber") this is likely China's 6th gen fighter concept. It's an incredible technical accomplishment and marvel.
