I really hope that “most of you would be a Nazi because you just go along with the system.” Is part of the statement.

As Adrian in this universe actually has the same beliefs as ours. Who hates racism and Nazis as shown in season 1.

All of the characters are the same.. but in a Nazi universe.

There’s also likely no Superman here.. probably because he either wasn’t human and thus killed.. or was against fascism, because Superman is ALWAYS against fascism and racism.

I wouldn’t be shocked if the Dead Peacemaker was going though some shit as his moral core starts to bloom and he started to see how bad things were.

I just hate we took 5 /8 eps to get here.

I actually like it's Adrian that we're shown is not ok with it. His whole deal so far has been his super rigid, if warped, moral compass. We just saw him store millions in his basement because he had to keep it somewhere, he couldn't spend it, and he couldn't trust the authorities not to be corrupt. Everyone else has been shown to be ok with moral ambiguity, willing to go along with certain degrees of corruption or moral ambiguity

I would not be ok with that tbh. It would cheapen the influence Peacemaker's contact with those around him is supposed to have had, and the disillusionment he had with his father figure and the US government if the Peacemaker who we only see directly benefit from nazism also had a moral revelation putting him "ahead" of those around him.

Our peace maker stated to really question things after killing Flagg. There were some lines that made it seem like he was being weird before. But that could also just be our pacemaker’s actions.

I agree that pacemaker’s growth only happened via other people, so it’s unlikely he was unhappy with being a Nazi.

I knew that was gonna be the twist, I fucking knew it

[–] Nakoichi@hexbear.net 24 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

I mean they telegraphed it pretty hard with everyone in the other universe being blonde white people.

[–] Keld@hexbear.net 20 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I floated the idea with another guy who watched it and he was just confused, he never noticed that there weren't any minorities. I almost convinced myself that the idea was bad because "Well they could just have cast a ton of white people" but then I thought that they would still have had one of the major poc characters appear.

[–] Nakoichi@hexbear.net 4 points 3 weeks ago

In one of the episodes there are poc in the "terrorist" group that Peacemaker straight up slaughters.

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 20 points 3 weeks ago

I pointed it out to my partner and she just said "Oh, well, these things are usually pretty fucking white, I didn't think twice about it"

Which is absolutely true

spoilerI was really worried this was just gonna be a season of Chris being cringe as he tries to fit into other Chris's shoes, but as soon as they did the face melting at the beginning of the latest ep I realized why his dad was a hero. This is much more preferable.

spoilerLol basically. I was so focused on the Chris/Harcourt romance that I just kinda figured our Chris came from the bad universe. I mean, Sons of Liberty sounds like some libertarian fash shit.

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 7 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

spoiler

I had my suspicions from the very start because a universe where the White Dragon is a respected hero had to have something wrong with it

Especially since they revealed that they stole the pocket universe tech instead of actually developing it themselves

Which is something that I suspected, because why would some Nazi fuck who made his kids fight for money probably wasn't bright enough to do super-science

[–] JoeByeThen@hexbear.net 6 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

spoilerI questioned it in the beginning when Keith was alive, like are they both racist then? But when it wasnt addressed immediately I kept waiting for the shoe to drop of Chris not living up to the expectations of a beloved "Captain America" type Peacemaker. I kinda just forgot about it until the faces melted.

[–] Thordros@hexbear.net 13 points 3 weeks ago

The plot twist was thatthe alternate universe is just regular ordinary America.

I don't know, it looks like you might have to wade through a swamp of superhero nonsense to get to the interesting part. But maybe you shouldn't listen to me, I couldn't get through Andor because of the silly Star Wars shit, and everyone else on this website seems to love that show. Perhaps I just have an unusually low tolerance for the franchise tie-in bullshit that American storytelling needs to be coated with to get a production funded.

[–] weeb_lenin@hexbear.net 15 points 3 weeks ago

Nah, you're not entirely wrong. Peacemaker is probably the best tv capeshit, but it's still capeshit. I like Andor, but it's slow and isn't entirely standalone. The show that I can't get behind at all is The Boys. It's practically the definition of mindless capeshit slop, the main spin is that it's cynical, but that's just the trend.

[–] CommCat@hexbear.net 9 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (2 children)

I thought I was the only one here who couldn't stomach more than a few episodes of Andor. People here were talking about Andor being some Young Stalin adventures and stuff lol, got to when Mon Motha was introduced then couldn't stomach any more Star Wars shit.

[–] SickSemper@hexbear.net 11 points 3 weeks ago

Good thing you didn’t get to s2, it was basically a parade of glup shittos with a dash of revolution building

[–] T34_69@hexbear.net 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I feel you about Andor. The main character didn't have a whole lot in common with young Stalin, people were definitely hyping up that aspect so it was inevitably gonna be disappointing. People were making it sound like actual Marxism in star wars, lol. I still enjoyed it but I kind of had to choose to enjoy it, if that makes sense, still haven't watched the second season.

[–] SickSemper@hexbear.net 2 points 2 weeks ago

Also I’m pretty sure the young Stalin book Gilroy read was montefiore

[–] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 8 points 3 weeks ago

Star Wars is become genre, destroyer of original settings. It’s gonnna be like westerns. We have good subversive westerns, turn the genre upside down stuff, but they are westerns.

So now it’s star wars

There is a weird thing about cuckolding, it's very tied up in the rest of the dc stuff, and if you dislike the quippy shit from marvel movies youll hate this because it turns that shit up to 11.

[–] D61@hexbear.net 6 points 2 weeks ago

Its enjoyable slop.
