The officer apparently tried to tuck a gun into his pants instead of using a holster, failed, dropped the gun, and menaced bystanders in response to his own failure

People need to read up on the Kent State shootings in 1970. National Guards "men" shot and killed people singing songs. 4 murdered, 9 more shot, then days later at UNM 8 students were stabbed with bayonettes.

There was an investigation, the Guard lied about being under sniper fire, most of these brave heros admitted they were scared because of rocks. No one was held responsible for a massacre of unarmed Americans.

America has a 50 year old problem of cowards with guns.

[–] Ordinary_Person@lemmy.ca 28 points 2 days ago (3 children)

And we're still talking about Kent State and UNM today as it had a serious affect on the country. But the sad part is, if something like this happened today, a third of Americans would blame the victims. Fox News would tell lies about what actually happened. And it would be swept under the rug and forgotten about by Christmas.

[–] kandoh@reddthat.com 19 points 2 days ago

When it happened 80% of the country blamed the kids. We're actually much better off today then we were back then in terms of public opinion and reactions.

Trump world also pardon any offenders if it made it to court.

America has. 250 year old problem of cowards with guns

[–] ultranaut@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Some of those shot weren't even protesters, they were just random students walking to class who were completely uninvolved.

[–] Kurious84@lemmings.world 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Great job America. Should make judgement day a piece of cake for God.

[–] Pat_Riot@lemmy.today 2 points 1 day ago

Grow up. There is no god, but if there was then it's to blame for every bit of this.

[–] skuzz@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That guy is so double-dumb, as majority modern pistols won't fire without a magazine even if they have a round in the chamber as an idiot-protection feature. Case-in-point. I suppose. Also LOL even calling them agents. Joke faux lol shits is a better name and I spent 1ms thinking up that name. Assclowns would be a better name. Traitors, treasonists, fascists, better yet.

[–] Ithral@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 13 hours ago

It's hardly a majority. Very few have a mag safety, and those that do often have it removed by their owners because it makes the weapon annoying to function check safely.

Only the best and brightest.

It's literally the South Park episode.

[–] YashaB@lemmy.world 56 points 2 days ago (10 children)

Ah yes, the States. Where you have to be more scared of the police than of criminals.

I sure hope this doesn't happen over here.

Surely these men (sadly almost entirely us) are getting known, renowned in their own communities and workplaces as the morons to avoid. The draining view is that they'll be treated with jock humour and ultimately praised.

[–] sin_free_for_00_days@sopuli.xyz 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I don't think they're that rare. I'm guessing their family, neighbors, and friends are fuckheads too.

[–] MrSulu@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 day ago

Have upvoted you but secretly wishing really really really hard that you're wrong, but knowing that your completely right.

[–] squaresinger@lemmy.world 28 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I've seen drunk teenagers more eloquent and confident than this guy.

[–] Res_ipsa_loquitur@lemmy.world 18 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Those guys are fuckin trash at their job, my god.

[–] causepix@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 day ago

Well yeah, they took a job to basically run around and terrorize immigrants all day like its cowboys and indians. Can't imagine that attracts a very high caliber individual, and the administration sure as hell isn't turning anyone away.

I stayed just outside of DC a couple weeks ago. I went into a run-down Dunkin and it was operated entirely in Spanish aside from the cashier knowing just enough English to take orders from people who aren't fluent in Spanish. I knew enough Spanish to be able to get my order when it was called. As I was leaving, a cop came in and started counting every brown person there. He made a big show of it, too, and people started panicking.

I honestly didn't know what to do in that situation. I was hungover as hell, broke, and had to drive 5 hours to get home so I could wake up for work the next day. I decided to just hang out and make sure the cop knew that I was watching him. I had my phone out and ready to record if more serious shit started happening. After a few minutes, the cop went back outside to his squad car and I pretended like I totally just happened to be leaving at the same time. When I blatantly eavesdropped on the cop and his buddy in the squad car outside, I heard them laughing about the whole thing. Apparently terroizing immigrants and their families is a fucking game to those bastards.

The patrons of the place cleared out immediately after the cops were gone. I stayed parked at that Dunkin for a good half an hour after everyone who could leave did and nothing else happened.

I have no idea if I should have done something more in that situation. I wanted to tell the cop to get the fuck out of there. I wanted to say some witty shit like "Oh man, I didn't order ice with my coffee."

I kinda freaked out internally when I realized what was happening but I couldn't bring myself to just leave despite my instincts telling me to. So I just made my presence and opposition to the cop known in a way that couldn't (legally) get me arrested and hoped for the best.

[–] AnarchistArtificer@slrpnk.net 34 points 2 days ago

Perhaps you could have done more, but you did something, and that matters in my books

[–] F_State@midwest.social 22 points 2 days ago

Most cops are sadists or ok with other cops being sadists. The ones that aren't don't last long in that environment before they quit or get training accidented.

I drive a school bus for a semi rural city in Arkansas. A large portion of the kids that ride my bus are Hispanic. I have had nightmares about this shit since the election.

I'm a white blonde blue eye cishet man and I'm still being hit by the unabashed cruelty and evil. I just want to get off.

Where the fuck was he taught to tuck his gun in his belt like this? Fucking hastily trained amateurs.

[–] ThePantser@sh.itjust.works 184 points 3 days ago (3 children)

Trained? Don't they just apply, given a gun, mask, and pointed towards a brown person?

An ICE agent pointing a gun at someone like this deserves to be fired. He basically doubled down on his own incompetency.

[–] LordCrom@lemmy.world 56 points 2 days ago (5 children)

Problem is, who is the officer? No name, no badge number, unmarked car....

This is how the riots start. Sooner or later one of these untrained ice agents will shoot a civilian because he is scared. Somebody in that crowd will shoot back....and then it begins.

Loving his mag just sitting on the damn ground… clearly he is an untrained POS! He lost his damn gun taking down ONE guy… He couldn’t even shoot if he wanted leaving that mag on the ground, fucking idiot!

How does the orange fucking dick taste? Like shit? He def would know since he can’t even handle a damn gun properly. Fucking clowns!

[–] Neon_Carnivore@lemmy.zip 15 points 2 days ago (1 children)

He couldn’t even shoot if he wanted leaving that mag on the ground, fucking idiot!

This is not true. The magazine is only the feeding mechanism. There is likely still a round in the chamber. This is firearm safety 101. Always assume a weapon is able to fire unless you 100% know that it isn't.

The problem with gun-wielding morons is they're slow to realize the rest of us can put them in jail.

[–] PolarKraken@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This is such a strange and out-of-touch comment (to me) that I can't tell if it's bad sarcasm or...what.

[–] JackbyDev@programming.dev 10 points 1 day ago

You're not alone, that's my reaction too, because the frustrating reality is that it never happens.

[–] tehredmage@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 2 days ago

Can you, though?

Or do you elect them to the highest office in the land?

[–] IzzyScissor@lemmy.world 67 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Pointing a gun at someone is assault.

[–] F_State@midwest.social 20 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Police in the US do lots of things that are against the law without consequences.

He should have been taken down by a good guy with a gun immediately - pointing a gun at someone is a felony, and these brown coats have no training or accountability.

The gun fumble omfg, guy being kidnapped very nearly grabbed it. Then it takes 8 minutes for 4 guys to put on handcuffs and get out of the intersection!?! Reckless, untrained and dangerous for everyone around them.

[–] Diva@lemmy.ml 140 points 3 days ago (17 children)

Drops his own gun next to the hand of the guy he's arresting, then hastily picks it up to point it at the people recording him. Incredible.

[–] Plurrbear@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Not only that but dumbass drops his entire mag! He needs to be fired! ___
