They used to be disgusted by me when I talked to them, but now they are disgusted by me the moment they see me.
Or, they used to recognize him from a distance. The moustache changed his look enough that he was able to get closer before they fled.

I can just say he fucking dumb Alexie Jonsie looks like with his dumb lil moustache.
Alex Jones is more like Julius Streicher who also sported a pathetic moustache to ingratiate himself with Hitler. Streicher was virulently antisemitic and spouted all kinds of bug eye conspiracies but even other Nazis thought he was little more than an annoying clown.
