This guy has lost his marbles. Also, there is no such future person as the 'antichrist'. The reference being made in Revelation is Nero.

The reference being made in Revelation is Nero.

I'm pretty sure I still have this installation somewhere...

I used to love that software!

But isn't that something some people want? Saying that, I would imagine, would just get them to lean into supporting AI governance even harder. Dude didn't think this one through...

When Thiel replied that hastening the Antichrist's arrival is "obviously" not what he thinks he's doing, Douthat agreed that it was unlikely but pressed, "I'm just interested in how you get to a world willing to submit to permanent authoritarian rule."

Peter Thiel submit to my rules and I promise you, your entire world will live under permanent authoritarian rule. Your fear of aimless freedom will be permanently quelled, your every worry tranquilized. Just submit to me Peter Thiel and I will make your dreams come true.

Sounds like something the antichrist would say.

I would consider Peter Thiel to be an antichrist candidate. He is trying but there are a lot of other hopefuls putting in the work to get that title.

If we think Elon, Gates and Bezos are far-right, exploiting, scum billionaires, then Thiel is about 715 Texas sized football fields to the right of them politically. Dude is and has always been insane.

[–] anachronist@midwest.social 7 points 1 day ago

Theil is their leader. This is especially obvious with Elon. Elon is Theil's dumb errand boy.

there's an old joke that poor people are "weird" but wealthy people are "eccentric"

if you heard someone in your family saying this bullshit at Thanksgiving, you'd think they were experiencing delusions and in need of professional mental help.

instead, Thiel talked about this in a four-part lecture series with sold-out tickets.

Noted non-theologian Peter Thiel…

I swear anyone who refers to the Antichrist in any serious way should be publicly mocked and then placed into a conservatorship.

Thiel is weird, like being willing to admit in an interview that he regularly gets blood transfusions from healthy young people in order to prolong his life back in 2016 or 17, or hesitating when on a podcast and asked if he believed in humanity surviving into the future... but he's generally not completely fucking bonkers. He's one of the most successful Silicon Valley investors. Remember that he basically made JD Vance, Planatir is getting deeply entrenched in multiple countries' intelligence agencies and law enforcement groups, he has a ridiculous amount of connections to everyone involved with Project 2025, some connections to the current AI bubble, and at least some connection to getting Trump into office in the first place. He is probably the closest thing we have to a real life supervillian, as trite as saying that is.

This is an absurd statement, but he's saying it for a reason. He's trying to make something happen with this. He's trying to push things in a certain direction. Don't just laugh at the absurdity or make some cheap laugh statement about delusional Christians and turn your brain off.

Seems like he's trying to make regulations for AI not happen so Palantir can be a creepier orb of intelligence.

Hes like if Elon Musk wasn’t a fucking moron.

What is this obsession with mythological nonsense?

[–] MagicShel@lemmy.zip 16 points 2 days ago

Self-importance and loss of connection to reality through both tech and wealth.

Because it's about shit that can't be proven wrong to an audience that has been raised to believe in a big Sky Daddy of some variety or another. IMHO, raising children to believe in whatever religion predisposes them to believe all sorts of groundless bullshit told to them by their leaders, which is why those prone to controlling others like to push religion so hard.

He's playing the crowd.

He's literally funding the biblical description of the antichrist according to Revelation.

Trump literally went to the UN and said he made world peace happen.

Antichrist would of course lie about this.

[–] noxypaws@pawb.social 9 points 2 days ago

His marbles were never unlost

[–] Opisek@piefed.blahaj.zone 8 points 2 days ago

And this comes from none other than Palantir? Am I reading this right? Absolutely hypocrisy. Up next, the car industry says you should take the bus instead.

The antichrist was regulation all along.

[–] OpenStars@piefed.social 3 points 1 day ago

The reference being made in Revelation is Nero.

I have heard before how Nero may have been the one who caused the tribulations that early Christians went through - e.g. not being able to buy food without having his (Nero's) approval, but not necessarily in reference to Nero being the actual Antichrist himself.

So I looked it up, and according to https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antichrist, that term is widely thought (e.g. Martin Luther, father of the Protestant reformation, and John Calvin) to not necessarily refer to Nero, or rather not just him alone. Similar to how a "man of the law" can refer to anyone who upholds it - a sheriff for example - a "man of lawlessness" can refer to anyone who opposes it.

Cool, TIL 😎

Regulation is something that should happen to the media as far as he’s concerned
