Which is already illegal, which they know. It’s not about the porn. It’s about seeing what they can get away with.

[–] Flocklesscrow@lemmy.zip 2 points 5 hours ago

They're all velociraptors testing the fences

[–] njordomir@lemmy.world 15 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

They're just making a market for someone to compile a 1TB "Best of the Best Cumpilation", copy it to a handful of cheap terrabyte drives and resell them (to legal adults) in a verification state.

  • This comment should not be read as condoning copyright infringement, but rather as a commentary pointing out that prohibition instantly creates very easy to serve and lucrative black markets that will be filled by someone.

Hello, I am here to condone copyright infrigement and advocate for the abolition of the intellectual property regime and the criminalization of pro-copyright advocacy for they are enclosers of culture and therefore the enemy of humanity and should be ground into a fine powder.

Also, abolish Michigan !

American Taliban.

Simple as that.

Domestic terrorists who typically look unkempt and dirty, attempting to oppress others.

American Taliban.

[–] CaptainBlinky@lemmy.myserv.one 3 points 8 hours ago

They're not domestic terrorists when they're the ones in charge. They're fascists.

[–] interdimensionalmeme@lemmy.ml 2 points 9 hours ago

Hello, I assure you unkempt dirty people are fine people please do not associate us with these anti-human scums

[–] andros_rex@lemmy.world 30 points 15 hours ago (2 children)

Eight states have ID verification laws.

Oklahoma has tried several times to make viewing porn a felony.

Everyone laughing this off as impossible is not taking this seriously enough.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 3 points 11 hours ago

I'm in Florida and so many sites block or want to verify me that I automatically hit my VPN server.

[–] Euphoma@lemmy.ml 1 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

Honestly I forgot porn was banned in Utah (id verification) and I live in Utah. Its still relatively easy to view sites without vpn or id

[–] MiddleAgesModem@lemmy.world 21 points 15 hours ago

If they removed porn from the internet, the next day there would only be one website called 'BringBackAllthePorn.com'"

Dr. Cox

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 50 points 18 hours ago (2 children)

The GOP really thinks there won't be any more elections, don't they?

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 19 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

At the speed at which this is happening, there won't be, and I'm not joking.

No one is coming to save us.

Arm up. Train. Help everyone you can arm up and train. Form networks and use encrypted messaging apps to communicate.

I'm not going to pretend like I know how this will play out, but the one thing I know is that our federal government has been captured by literal fascists and they're going to dial this up to 11 and see what happens. Maybe they simply don't have enough national support to really pull it off. Maybe they do. I do know that you don't want to be unprepared if they do.

It can happen here. We never thought we'd be where are are right now. But we are.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 8 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

There will be elections. They'll just be sham elections in the places where they're overseen by Republicans.

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago (1 children)
[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 2 points 8 hours ago

Worse than what used to be normal.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 1 points 11 hours ago

100% with ya. Going shooting at my camp shortly.

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 3 points 15 hours ago

Yeah, if trumples is still around by the next election they will try for a 3rd term with all the fun times that will bring.

But if he's dead/has been trundled off to a gar gar home (he's 99.5% of the way there anyway), then I think they'll have a hard time of it.

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 13 hours ago

Conservatives melting down

[–] WindyRebel@lemmy.world 23 points 17 hours ago (3 children)

GOP projecting again. Sounds like the party has a porn addiction!

[–] ganryuu@lemmy.ca 17 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

I see it more as a step towards banning a ton of content they don't like by claiming they are porn, or porn-adjacent (for example any LGBTQ+ content)

[–] TipRing@lemmy.world 13 points 12 hours ago

It was literally outlined as this in Project2025, ban porn then define speech you want to suppress (primarily LGBT but also women's health) as porn.

[–] bytesonbike@discuss.online 10 points 16 hours ago

Just came to say this.

Check this dude's hard drive for petabytes of porn.

VPN companies hearing the distant cha-chinging of cash registers.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 23 points 19 hours ago

While they all install VPNs for themselves.

"if I am very against it no one will think I'm an elite gooner"

[–] interdimensionalmeme@lemmy.ml 61 points 1 day ago (1 children)

But not gambling, cigarettes, day trading, doom scrolling, sub minimum wage gig work right ?

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 23 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Don't forget congressional insider trading!

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 5 points 9 hours ago

Also pedophilia on private islands!

[–] Quazatron@lemmy.world 35 points 1 day ago (2 children)

As a relatively recent country (by European standards), USA did not go through the Middle Age. I guess this is it. Enjoy the public burnings of heretics.

They're banning explicit manga AND erotica? Gooners, you gotta rise up and save the Michigan fujoshis and fudanshi!

In all seriousness, the real reason is clear, conservatives love telling on themselves:

Schriver's bill also has a transphobic component. If adopted into law, the act includes prohibitions on material that "includes a disconnection between biology and gender by an individual of one biological sex imitating, depicting, or representing himself or herself to be of the other biological sex."

~~Someone in the Michigan legislature got caught being too into femboys or something similarly stupid, probably.~~

[–] TwitchingCheese@lemmy.world 11 points 17 hours ago

I mean, this is the same guy that wants to criminalize homosexuality so that's on brand.

Lmao good luck idiots. Already tried it with alcohol, then with weed. How'd those work out? Porn isn't even tangible.

[–] applebusch@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Guess I'm learning how to draw. I'll make my own big dick futa waifu fuck my ideal big dick futa self.

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago

Then post it for the rest of us.

[–] dditty@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 13 hours ago

It'd make being transgender inherently pornographic, possibly allowing them to harass, abuse, and roundup trans people.

[–] Carmakazi@lemmy.world 116 points 1 day ago (5 children)

It doesn't need to be absolute in success, it just needs to be applied arbitrarily to further abuse out-groups.

From the bill:

"Pornographic material" includes any content, digital, streamed, or otherwise distributed on the internet, the primary purpose of which is to sexually arouse or gratify, including videos, erotica, magazines, stories, manga, material generated by artificial intelligence, live feeds, or sound clips.

Soooo they want stronger plot lines in their porn? Is that what I'm hearing? Something that they can sit down and watch with the family?

[–] BreakerSwitch@lemmy.world 10 points 13 hours ago

In case it wasn't clear to everyone, the end goal here is not banning porn, but to classify being gay, trans, etc, as sexually arousing and ban any speech by anyone in those groups, followed by banning those groups.

[–] kbobabob@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 8 hours ago

I'm guessing they'll completely shutdown HBO in the state then. Peacemaker alone would be enough.
