Like for over 50 years American right wingers have been fuming about the liberals having managed to turn one of "their" guys into an American icon and the conservatives have mostly had to at least pretend to respect him and his legacy in public and they've felt humiliated and emasculated about it the whole time

Now they want to make the liberals bend the knee and force them to slobber over one of their guys or risking getting fired

Nah, it's because he's a do nothing nobody whose image they can mold into literally anything they want in order to artificially create support for their cause. It's a massive grift, they're trying to make it seem like the worst thing you could possibly ever do on this earth is kill a conservative shithead.

Jeezus thank you for making this point. The dude was a do-nothing. He literally just showed up at colleges and argued with kids who are dumb enough to engage. Then he edited the footage to look like a Real American Badass™️

My libertarian removed brother thinks Kirk was "teaching kids how to debate" 🫣 and doing valuable public service

I think it's just desperate cope. This whole Charlie Kirk martyr thing is not organic, it's a sloppy frantic scramble to uphold the right wing simulacrum of power, righteousness, and control.

You didn't need all that with MLK. Show anyone an MLK speech, it's self evident the man was powerful, charismatic, and a real leader. Charlie Kirk is a freaky little weirdo who comes off as unsettling at best.

Gods yes! He looked fucking bizarre, like an overgrown goblin

Feel like they’re more trying to lathe into existence a second 9/11 using the dumbest possible event. Like we can talk about the politics around 9/11 but it was a tragedy where a lot of people died, which then of course gets used to increase surveillance on Americans, invade Afghanistan and then Iraq and clamp down on “anti-American” speech (cancel culture anyone?)

Sort of trying to do the same thing again, but instead of a real tragedy where thousands lost their lives and many more lost loved ones and family members, this is just a single shitty debatebro podcaster stuck in the anti-sjw days of 2014 getting mercd. Already trying to pass some bullshit called the Charlie Kirk act. Which I haven’t read but just sounds like bullshit. And of course their constant desire to go after trans people and the broader left. Which yeah they’re already doing, but anything to demonize these groups further. After the Minnesota shooting they were trying to ban trans people from owning guns, we’re probably gonna start hearing about that again. And of course the free speech warriors are already going after people expressing their right to free speech, a la 2001. First as tragedy then as farce.

it's just an excuse for fascist crybullying, they get to cancel people now

True Patriots™ are sad that Horst Wessel died, why aren't you crying in public? What are you, some kind of immigrant?

[–] godlessworm@hexbear.net 15 points 18 hours ago

they all have to pretend to care so they can perpetuate their victim complexes. i was looking at the conservative subreddit earlier and they're even bigger cry babies than usual. i keep seeing claims that hundreds of people have been fired. i don't doubt a few have but come on lmao cope harder. they're just happy they get to complain to the manager and hope to punish someone cause they're all psychologically broken people who need re-education

Don't think so, I really think that it's entirely possible that a bunch of apolitical people are genuinely shocked by the reaction to Kirk's assassination. Obviously the conservatives are going to take advantage of this and recruit, but when grillman sees preschool teachers saying "I'm glad that guy got shot" on their local Facebook group, it's going to freak them out and they won't want to associate with that. The big driver here is not the conservatives, but the reactions of the apolitical/moderates/centrists/"normies". Without them, all the equivocation by conservatives (including comparisons to MLK) would have zero effect.

I am surprised by how many normies I've seen just not care about the guy's death. I guess that's what happens when you make people less sensitive to "political violence" because of the violence either perpetrated by the state (like with cops or the wars abroad or the genocide) or ignored by the state (like with school shootings or the social murder of the capitalist health care or housing systems) every damn day.
