I've seen a few online commentators try to blame social media and make it out to be a chronically online thing. Ironically, the majority of people I know irl give few shits, and if they care, they're happy because- surprise- black people on average feel existentially threatened by those expressing white supremacist talking points.

The only people I know who care about it are my hyper-online cousins and a couple of former college friends who went off the deep end a long time ago. All people who, if push comes to shove, will never personally pick up a gun to enforce the terror.

At my company we have department meetings every morning. We each say what we're gonna do that day, and something we're grateful for. I was bracing myself for a bunch of bullshit about Charlie, but only one guy said something out of like 20! We did still have our 9/11 moment of silence tho :/

I teach high school, and my students universally think it is cool and good. The very first comment I got after the shooting was "I think his neck just did that." The administration had to send out a mass email asking people to tone down the celebration of violence. The kids are alright.
When he got capped I told a normie I know and they said "who is that?".
