I’m currently still in Belgium, but next week I will visit Indonesia. I booked long time ago and I’m coming for 2 months. I’ve been following the news for some time now. I’ve seen the one piece flag become a symbol of resistance, read the news about the extra benefits for politicians, saw the protests expanding over the whole country, and then Affan of course. I’m so sad about this guy, I really don’t have words for it.
I’ve seen influencers on instagram speaking up against the government and calling upon everyone to monitor the situation. They also warned for censorship from the government about news going out. Right at this moment I stopped getting updated about the protests. Is it really being censored towards the world or are there really less protests. I don’t know. That’s why I wanted to ask what the people of the country that are experiencing this.
And how about safety? I mean if we as tourists stay out of the protest zones, I imagine it would be okay. I already looked up where the government buildings are, so we don’t go near there or book a place somewhere near.
A final question is about a booking platform. I don’t want to use booking.com or Airbnb because of their activities in occupied areas in Palestine. Can you recommend a platform to book hotels, hostels or apartments/houses, preferably an Indonesian one that’s trusted.
