the Cork Transport Workers' Union took possession of the Harbour Board's offices and assumed complete control of the local port, forming a workers' soviet until negotiations could be resolved.

The Cork Harbour Strike was a labor dispute that lasted from September 2nd to September 7th, 1921. It was the result of the refusal of the Cork Harbor Board to increase the wages of its workers to a minimum of 70s a week.

On September 6th, 1921, the Cork Transport Workers' Union took possession of the Harbour Board's offices and assumed complete control of the port.

According to the New York Times, "when the strikers took possession of the Harbour Board offices, they hoisted a red flag as a token of Soviet control and the strikers' leaders announced their intention of collecting dues from shipping agents and using them to pay members of the union."

The rebellion was short-lived, however, as negotiations between the Harbour Board and the strikers were reopened soon after, which came to a successful resolution. The revolt was not well-taken in the press.

The Irish Times wrote "To-day Irish Labour is permeated with a spirit of revolt against all the principles and conventions of ordered society. The country's lawless state in recent months is partly responsible for this sinister development, and the wild teachings of the Russian Revolution have fallen on willing ears."

Fact that a lot of people would hate: You could totally make a Back to the Future Remake in 2025, but the 30 years in the past would be in 1995. And the "Ronald Reagan, the actor?" joke would still work, but with the president in 2025.

They visit the Cafe 80s and it's all neoncore and lo fi

Marty is having trouble because his smartphone doesn't work in the past, has to learn to look stuff up in a phone book

uhhh I'm sure there's a ton of good bits you could do if you had a team of millennial comedy writers put the script together, but then the studio would get involved and remove everything interesting and make them redo it as an overly emotional sappy love letter to the franchise and it would suck.

The green lantern can craft anything his imagination can come up with yet every single time I've seen him he goes with "big fist"

[–] SupFBI@hexbear.net 12 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

Hal Jordan is an Amerikkkan. All we know is big fist.

[–] Euergetes@hexbear.net 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

are we sure of this? when has he ever made "burger"?

[–] SupFBI@hexbear.net 12 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

A burger is a type of sandwich. A fist is a knuckle sandwich.

I sat down with my advisor Wednesday and we went over what I should do, where I was at etc. Had a good plan and all for what approach I should take with my data. Since then I have done literally nothing except that Friday/Saturday I drank 5 full bottles of wine and now I feel crap. I need all my thesis to go to my advisors by Oct 10 and I've written like 4 pages and done zero analysis.

Oct 10

you got time. i mean you need to do some work but you cannot get trapped into some idea that you blew it already. you haven't.

[–] Blakey@hexbear.net 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, but I haven't been able to do any productive work in months. I just feel defeated. I don't know why I can't get anything done, I just... Can't.

[–] Euergetes@hexbear.net 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

you can communicate this to your advisor, like they're people who did this too, and can give you help if they're not a dick

I have been. Just feels pointless. Work history's a mess so I don't feel like it'll get me a job. Environment is a mess so I don't feel like anyone can make a real difference there (my undergrad was conservation biology and enviro management). And my subs doctor took one of my take home doses off me because any time he thinks I'm doing ok he wants me "off drugs", because he's an old piece of shit.

Bike rode great with the re-built free wheel. Set a (admittedly modest) distance record of 12 miles today. Haven't done that since I was a skinny energetic teenager with no drivers license.

lea-breakdown anxiety days. My car's wheel almost fell off about a month ago so I missed 3 weeks of work (I used PTO for some of it) plus ~1000 bucks to fix it. My meager 'single adult living with multiple roommates' savings got cut plumb in half.

I wouldn't feel so worried about it if it weren't for stonks-down and the fact that it's been dicey getting full hours already.

Anyway fun story: The car got fixed at the beginning of week 2 of me being off. But on friday when they write the schedule for next week harold-manic I got a text asking me if I was ready to come back. I noticed and replied a couple hours later only to get back "Oh well you didn't reply back! I wrote the schedule and you're not on it!" point-and-laugh-1point-and-laugh-2
