Call Motorola for support. If that doesn't work then call T-Mobile again. Doesn't matter if you're a customer or not
Can you login to the T-Mobile account to check the unlock status?
Unfortunately no. I'm no longer a T-Mobile customer. I unlocked my phone after the contract and immediately moved to Verizon with a physical Sim.
Now trying to move to a subcarrier and trying to use an e-sim but it isn't working.
Esims are not very mature yet, especially if your phone isn't an iPhone, but even Samsungs will have issues, Motorola has less than 20% market share, most carriers don't bother making stuff work for Motorola phones.
I had a budget samsung phone and tried signing up with a MVNO, and they said my phone "wasn't compatible" with eSIM, I was like what bitch, this worked with another MVNO, but it did show up as compatible for Physical sim.
Sometimes its just like that, especially if it was once a carrier phone, it would show up as originally belonging to another carrier and they just don't bother to check if its unlocked and assume it isn't.
Just use Physical sim. If you really like eSims, get iPhone or Samsung.
What I mean is that: some carriers, you go check their list of compatible devices, the only 2 brands thay show up are Apple and Samsung.
What carrier/mvno are you trying to signup with btw? I can check the page to see. (I'm bored and curious about what the issue is)
I'm signing up with us mobile. They support all 3 major carriers.
Its not even a matter of the esim not registering. The menu itself isn't correct on the Moto. When I hit add esim, before I even try to input anything, its immediately an error screen that says call T Mobile.
I found a very old XDA post that said if I ever unlocked the bootloader on this model phone at any point before the phone was paid off (I did at some point for some reason) it blows a fuse on the phone itself that permanently disables esim functionality. I haven't been able to verify that anywhere else and also seems illegal.
Got a screenshot? (black-out any personal info, obviously)
I'm signing up with us mobile
Very good choice. You really do need eSIM support for some of their unique features, like switching to a different network, or using multiple networks.
If you do need a physical SIM, you can use the coupon code "REDDITSIM" to reduce the price of their starter pack from $6.99 to $2.49. https://www.usmobile.com/shop/product/starter-kit/starter-kit-sim
That is odd, maybe the easiest option is just use a physical SIM?
That's the plan so far. In the meantime, I'm back on the trusty old pixel 4a
Unlocking phones is still way too complex and difficult, it really needs to be automatic as soon as it's eligible.
Absolutely!
