Image, and a considerable amount of the preamble's analysis, comes from this article in People's Dispatch.

A week ago, the Bolivian left-wing party, the Movement Towards Socialism (MAS), currently led by Luis Arce, decisively lost the round of elections against the right-wing. This comes after a prolonged period of "infighting" between Arce, and Morales, who previously led the MAS prior to the 2019 coup which briefly installed Jeanine Anez.

I put infighting in quotes because despite the nominal similarities between Arce and Morales, it is clear that this is not merely a counterproductive battle between two men - instead, the Bolivian left has arrived at a time of unavoidable conflict between two competing strategies. The electoral strategy is represented by Arce, who has aligned himself with a more middle-class-oriented campaign that is more economically liberal, whereas Morales represents a more working-class-oriented campaign that seeks to go further than tepid reform.

Such a conflict between electoralism and revolutionary action is inevitable in any and every developing country that 1) possesses a functioning left-wing party or organization, and 2) is under internal and/or external pressure by capitalists. This crisis must be resolved eventually - and this electoral failure is how such a crisis is manifesting right now. So while the Bolivian left has indeed lost the election, it is not yet defeated. The revolutionary campaign can, if it is willing, still ultimately stand triumphant. But what must be done is a real movement towards socialism, which goes beyond technocrats reforming from above, and instead transforms the state into a full political project of the working class, in which their movements, organizations, and protests are genuinely empowered. Such a project will involve repression by the forces of reaction, not least by the United States, but it is the only road left to take.

Ukrainian drone hits NATO ally, Estonia; lands in field, leaving behind a crater.

Seems to be due to Russian jamming. Another case of blowback, it won't stop at this.

In smol bean nazi country (Finland) news:

A particularly disgusting tourism article in the national news today. Of course this one did not get a translation to the English news side, because this might not look so good for the country brand.

It's an article in how israelis have discovered Finnish ~~Lapland~~ Saamenmaa for their touristy needs because Finland has not condemded Israel strongly and therefore these people feel safe here. It states how Finland has decided not to recognice Palestine and how the arms deals are ongoing. It goes over the huge rise in israeli tourism in Saamenmaa in the last years.

Luottamuksesta Lapin suosioon kertoo, että israelilainen matkanjärjestäjä Aviation Links on päättänyt investoida Lappiin. Israelilaismedian mukaan yhtiö omistaa neljänneksen Arctic Panorama -hankkeesta Rovaniemen Ounasvaaralla.

The article reveals that there are in fact several israelis living in the area and running these tourism businesses there, the upper quote states that an israeli firm calles Aviation Links is now investing in the area.

Hard to imagine how the Sami peoples are feeling when the area that was taken from them is now getting filled with genocidal israelis.

I don't follow this cinematic universe enough, but as far as I can tell, the pro-Abundance lib podcast had a pro-Abundance lib on their show and this is the highlight.

[–] thethirdgracchi@hexbear.net 54 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I actually cannot even read this. Like, is that an expression of disgust? Surprise? Happiness? Do abundance libs think building less affordable housing is "based" or "cringe"? Do they think it's "pog" to add EV chargers to an affordable housing complex when EV ownership in the United States is like directly correlated to wealth? I really have no idea what they believe, do they even have beliefs? What is their project? go-ahead

Someone shot and killed a former chairman of the Ukrainian parliament in Lviv. The target, Andriy Parubiy, has been in a handful of different right wing parties including the social-nationalist party, so good riddance to him.

Nothing publicly know about the attacker yet beside that he was riding a bike.

Axios: Scoop: White House believes Europe secretly undoing Ukraine war's end

Some people are going to eat this up, but it's literally what the US State Department wants you (and Russia) to believe. I bet this so-called "scoop" was deliberately planted in the media by them.

Europe has zero independence. They are doing exactly what the US tells them to, which is to bump up their military spending and keep the Ukraine war going for as long as possible, while the US shifts its focus elsewhere. It's all "division of labor" and "strategic sequencing," as Brian Berletic has been harping about.

Yemen has the Juche Necromancy technology.

Yemen’s military chief vows more escalation after Israeli claims of assassination

Yemen’s top military official has responded to the Israeli regime’s claims of his assassination by pledging further escalation against Tel Aviv towards forcing it to eventually end its genocide in the Gaza Strip.

Chief of the General Staff of the Yemeni Armed Forces, Major General Mohammed Abdulkarim al-Ghamari made the remarks to the country’s official Saba news agency on Friday.

“The Zionist escalation in Gaza or towards Yemen is not a sign of strength, but rather a sign of impotence and failure to achieve its goals over nearly two years, and it will be met with escalation,” he said.

The remarks came a day after “Israeli estimates” alleged that the regime might have “assassinated” a number of Yemeni officials, including Ghamari and Defense Minister Mohamed al-Atifi during airstrikes against the country’s capital Sana’a.

Expecting on the Front Lines: Motherhood in Ukraine’s Military by the NYT

Ukraine’s military is finding it hard to recruit young men as the war with Russia grinds on, but women — all volunteers — are a bright spot. The number of women serving has grown more than 20 percent to about 70,000 since Russia’s invasion in 2022.

Those who become pregnant often serve in tough conditions under relentless shelling, living without heat in the winter, or running water and proper toilets.

While the U.S. Army and many other militaries remove pregnant soldiers from combat zones, Ukrainian women usually serve until their seventh month. And that is in a military that doctors and soldiers say is ill-equipped to support them — from uniforms that don’t fit pregnant women, to a lack of prenatal care and nurseries — amid the costs and challenges of fighting the war.

The Ukrainian military did not respond to questions about how many women were pregnant or had given birth in the ranks, or about prenatal care for soldiers.

Rather interesting article over the weekend about Trump's deployment of National Guard to Washington I thought I'd share from il manifesto. Behind a paywall, so I'll post the article below under spoilers. It's in Italian, so I've translated the best bit below:

Trump is an adventurer, doubtless with his own agenda composed of ego out of control and economic interest (the lethal cocktail that comes in service of this stage of capitalism), but is also the spokesperson without scruples of the faction of the Right that is presently in control of the Republican party and within a few years has completely changed its composition and culture. The Imperial Republic [of the United States] invoked many times over the last century is becoming a reality and that which awaits us has the capacity to destabilize the fragile European "democracies" more than fascism. The same authoritarian tendency manifesting itself also elsewhere–from London and Berlin by way of Rome–and does not have to deal today with a form of opposition or a resistance organization, coherent and equipped with a clear vision of the future. On the contrary, in some of these countries it comes with the assent of a left without principles or a backbone.

A pretty damning but accurate take on the miserable state of the Left in the Western world these days, watching the most obvious steps of the imperial centre and its vassals walking towards open fascism without so much as a peep. Things are going to have to get a lot worse before we see any resistence whatsoever I'm afraid.

Argentinian President Javier Milei had to be rushed out of a motorcade on Wednesday. According to local media, men threw stones and bottles at the Argentinian leader. A spokesperson said that no one was injured.

The motorcade was part of an event organized by Milei's party, La Libertad Avanza (Freedom Advances), in the city of Lomas de Zamora, south of Greater Buenos Aires. The president was accompanied by Congressman José Luis Espert, one of the leading candidates in October's legislative elections. Images circulating on social media show Milei waving to people from the back of a pickup truck when a riot breaks out. Other videos show Espert leaving the scene on a motorcycle without a helmet.

Milei is currently experiencing a crisis in Argentina, with allegations of corruption. On August 22, the courts conducted searches as part of an investigation into an alleged kickback scheme involving high-ranking government officials and the president's own sister, Karina Milei.

Amid the crisis, Milei is also preparing for the midterm elections in October, which are seen as a referendum on the president's austerity agenda and market reforms. In recent months, Milei has suffered a series of defeats in Congress and even broke with Vice President Victoria Villarruel, who also presides over the Senate.

In July, the Senate approved, at the opposition's initiative, increases in retirement and disability pensions. The government argued that the measure would compromise fiscal balance. Milei called Villarruel a “traitor” for allowing the session to take place. The vice president responded by saying that the president should “behave like an adult.”

In early August, Milei vetoed the approved increases. The House overturned the veto on funds for people with disabilities but upheld the presidential decision on pensions. Now, the final word will be up to the Senate.

Amid tensions with Congress, Milei's approval rating fell eight percentage points in five weeks, reaching 41%. However, his party continues to lead voting intention polls for the legislative elections.

Real deployment or media propaganda? @latablablog digs into publicly available info once more to help split truth from fiction. Missile cruiser USS Lake Erie, reported to join the deployment on Venezuela's doorstep, is scheduled to be decommissioned next month

The missile cruiser USS Lake Erie (CG-70) crossed the Panama Canal last night en route to the Caribbean. But there is a contradiction: it is scheduled for DISMANTLING in September 2025. Real deployment or media narrative? The recorded events are inconsistent.

These are the facts:

  • The USS Lake Erie transited the Panama Canal on August 29 en route to the Caribbean.
  • The U.S. Navy plans to decommission it in Norfolk, Virginia, in September 2025.
  • It is an obsolete ship (32 years in service) with high maintenance costs.

Reuters reported that the ship would join an “anti-drug mission” near Venezuela, citing anonymous sources. But no official document supports this. Pattern of #FakeNews: Reuters has been wrong about Venezuela before.

Why is it inconsistent?

  • A ship undergoing decommissioning is not used in complex missions.
  • Norfolk is its logical destination (scrapyard).
  • The US already has modern destroyers in the area.

Conclusion: The narrative of “military deployment” appears to be a psychological tool to pressure Venezuela. Media outlets should verify sources, not amplify rumors.

The US Navy and Marines deployment off of the coast of Venezuela has escalated in scope and assets. The only AN/APS-154 (Advanced Airborne Sensor) and MUOS (Satellite communications) dual equipped P-8A Poseidon aircraft has arrived in Puerto Rico. This specific P-8A is the only one in service with both upgrades, and joins two others (without them) already stationed at Puerto Rico. Think of it as an AWACS aircraft, but for surface targets. More US Navy vessels are also on the way, a guided missile cruiser and submarine.

Upgrades of Russia's Pantsir air defense systems are reportedly "in full swing," according to Fighter Bomber. Each system will carry a larger number of missiles, of a new type, which is supposedly cheaper and faster to produce.

Pantsir is capable of firing while on the move, a rare ability among anti-air systems, which makes it (theoretically) very well suited to protecting advancing convoys. You may recall Russia attempting just that at the beginning of the war, to mixed results.

While Russia has been holding back its tanks from the front line, they have been busy working on integrating Arena-M active protection systems. They recently released a video proving that they are capable of intercepting Javelin top-attack missiles.

Wireless drones have also been more or less obsoleted by the improvement in electronic warfare systems. If Russia can come up with a good counter to fiber optic drones, we could very soon see the return of big arrow maneuver warfare.

With the collective West reportedly running out of spare air defense missiles to give Ukraine, and the focus shifting to Asia, the Russian Air Force may even make a big comeback.

The Cradle - Germany rules out recognizing Palestinian state

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated on Tuesday that Germany would not take part in an initiative to recognize a Palestinian state at next month’s UN General Assembly.

He made the remarks during a joint press conference with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, who announced last month that Canada would recognize the state of Palestine at the General Assembly, joining similar moves by France and Britain.

"The position of the federal government is clear, as far as the possible recognition of the state of Palestine is concerned," Merz said.

"Canada knows this. We will not join this initiative. We don't see the requirements met," he added

Israel preparing 'target bank' for attacks on Yemen after failure of US campaign

Tel Aviv recently failed in an attempt to assassinate the Yemeni army’s Chief of Staff Mohammad Abd al-Karim al-Raghmari

The Cradle, News Desk ^24/08/2025^

Click here for the full articleIsrael is preparing a “target bank” for a large-scale campaign against the Yemeni Armed Forces (YAF) and Ansarallah movement, Hebrew news outlet Walla reported on 24 August.

According to the report, the Mossad and Israel’s military intelligence are working to compile a large “target bank” to strike at Ansarallah’s “key centers of gravity.”

Officials are saying that Israel must collect many targets which could be simultaneously struck, aimed at inflicting severe damage – “unlike the recent US operation, which failed to decisively weaken the Houthis.”

The report notes that there was already a failed Israeli attempt to assassinate Mohammad Abd al-Karim al-Raghmari, the YAF’s Chief of Staff.

“Despite Israeli military officials admitting in recent months that striking the Houthis is difficult—since most of their key centers lie underground and some are unknown to Israeli intelligence—political sources insist that ‘the Houthis are defeatable,’” Walla added.

The sources said Israel must simultaneously strike command-and-control, ports, military capabilities, and the Yemeni defense industry.

“Unlike the failed US mission, success requires accumulating many targets whose combined strike could cause significant damage,” the sources said.

A several-month US campaign against Yemen, lasting from March to May, failed to significantly impact the YAF and Ansarallah, which are merged.

Washington burned through over $1 billion in munitions, carrying out over 1,000 airstrikes. The YAF continued to launch missiles and drones, and Washington had trouble locating its underground facilities.

“The US president preferred to cut losses and close the issue with the Houthis through mediation,” Israeli officials told Walla, referring to Donald Trump’s deal which excluded Israel and saw the YAF continue pro-Palestine operations against Israeli targets.

Israel has carried out several violent attacks on Yemen in recent months, in response to the continued Yemeni missile strikes launched in solidarity with the Palestinians in Gaza. The Walla report says Israel expects an escalation of Yemeni missile attacks once the occupation of Gaza City begins.

Tel Aviv has warned that it will no longer tolerate attacks. Officials have repeatedly signaled that a large-scale campaign against Yemen is in the works.

Israeli Army Radio reported that authorities are investigating whether the missile launched from Yemen at Tel Aviv recently contained multiple warheads, similar to some of those used by Iran during the 12-day war in June.

The missile “disintegrated in the air,” the Israeli army said.

Video footage during the attack showed the missile splitting into at least three different fragments. Multiple impact sites were reported: https://xcancel.com/EllenAbare/status/1958964606379913252
