Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body.

If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include not just the twitter.com URL but also xcancle.org (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source (archive.today, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org). Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed.

Mass-tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken Markov chain bot will result in a comm ban.

Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.

Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned.

Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society.

Snip:

A Ukrainian MP has admitted the loss of “several generations” in the country's 3-year conflict with Russia. The comments from Ukrainian MP Artem Dmytruk follow reports that leaked military files indicate Kiev’s forces have lost more than 1.7 million troops – killed or missing – since 2022.

Russian media outlets on Wednesday cited a digital card index allegedly acquired by hacker groups from Ukraine’s Chief of Staff said to contain names of dead or missing soldiers, details of their deaths, and personal data of their families.

The entries suggested 118,500 troops were killed or went missing in 2022, 405,400 in 2023, 595,000 in 2024 and a record 621,000 so far this year.

Commenting on the reported losses, Dmytruk said: “The lists of the missing today contain more than a million people, and of course these people are most likely dead, while their families remain in complete ignorance. The situation is tragic, the situation is frightening.”

Nope sorry Ukraine has only lost 50 men to Russia’s 50 million. This is a true and undeniable fact and they keep giving up land because uh not enough F-35s

Has the actual dataset been made public yet? While I do believe that Russian hackers could obtain this data, I'm sceptical because of the timing. The (dis-)information war always intensifies when there are mentions of possible peace talks.

If Russia really has this data there are almost no downsides for them to release it to the public. It even could help them with increasing unrest within Ukraine (showing actual casualties in the war to the masses and imagine the actions from families that receive no financial support because their loved ones allegedly are 'AWOL' while they're actually dead, but to save on costs and morale they are not reported as such).

I think that it's possible they have reason not to release it because the information might help Ukraine to identify where the leak is, so instead the RF just uses for for internal benefit. The more that you relay to substantiate something with details, the more that your opposition can narrow down where you got it from (based on where all those details were available), which helps them find whatever fault let you access it.

I passively assume that all these leaks are fake, but I don't really have an argument for it one way or the other.

Christ. This is the result of gleefully throwing Ukrainian lives into a blender (mostly conscripted against their will) to own the Russians.

All instead of seriously pursuing the very easy, peace plan alternative of "let the DPR/LPR vote on self determination". Millions of lives down the drain to prevent a democratic vote that might've gone against western interests.

Even a tenth of that is too much for a war like so, and this source says it's possible that it's five times the official consensus?

Frankly, I hope it's fake...
