They made $15M in profit from donations? I used to work in the nonprofit sector and that was the kind of shit that made me leave the industry.

And just to drive it home: The WMF spend only a fraction of their money on IT and lawyers, i.e. the one useful thing they do for Wikipedia. The rest just goes into salaries and ominous ever-increasing funds.

Kinda mixed feelings on Wikipedia tbh. Like it does have its problems but I'm not sure a better online encyclopedia is really possible in a western capitalist society. I wonder if the Baidu wiki site is good.

Baidu Baike is still quite liberal. I'd recommend checking out ProleWiki, and Cuba's EcuRed.

Its the go to first source for a lot of people, if youre in a group I always recommend getting yourselves a wikipedia article.

doesnt mean its not chock full of imperialist dogshit, but at least they have a lot of source material about colonisation and the like.

OH and btw, use the auto translate in your web browser to read the russian language pages about your favourite soviet citizen, it's a treat

they basically rolled over in their legal fight with the UK govt then instead of doing their threatened UK-Wide block they just asked for more money without explaining the news on their homepage.

I doubt most of their UK users know what the fuck is about to happen to their "unbiased and uncensored" encyclopedia. The fact they're not announcing anything makes the cynical side of me think they'll bend the knee and just hide it instead of having a spine.
