Call it what it is, a political loyalty test.

[–] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 4 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago)

And I didn't even want to work a very well paying corporate job that was in Oklahoma can't imagine waiting to jump through hoops to have a low paying teaching job in that shit hole state.

[–] teamevil@lemmy.world 7 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

I'm dumb as fuck and a racist against everybody who in(is) not the specific type of ignorant I is.... Can I have one teaching PhD please I'm going to teach in Oklahoma.

[–] MangioneDontMiss@lemmy.ca 3 points 9 hours ago

So prove that you're an ignoramus, you can teach.

[–] Nasan@sopuli.xyz 22 points 16 hours ago

They're only teachers if they're from the woke region of society. These clowns are sparkling indoctrination technicians.

[–] synae@lemmy.sdf.org 38 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Teaching IS "woke". It requires empathy for the students to present lessons that will actually be absorbed and incorporated into their understanding of the world.

[–] theneverfox@pawb.social 25 points 18 hours ago

They don't want teachers anymore, they want babysitters who will spout propoganda with no deviation or critical thought

[–] Thedogdrinkscoffee@lemmy.ca 48 points 19 hours ago (2 children)

Want to teach in Oklahoma?

No.

[–] leadore@lemmy.world 8 points 16 hours ago

Because to teach there you'd have to live there.

[–] Revan343@lemmy.ca 5 points 15 hours ago

Some people are into humanitarian missions

[–] atzanteol@sh.itjust.works 73 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

The state education department announced Wednesday that it is partnering with the conservative media company PragerU to develop a new certification test for teachers relocating to Oklahoma from states with “a history of promoting anti-American narratives.”

PragerU! Holy fuck!

[–] hansolo@lemmy.today 34 points 21 hours ago (2 children)

PragerU is like, all-caps conservative.

So would New York contract the Church of Satan to get the same program going?

[–] Xaphanos@lemmy.world 14 points 19 hours ago

The Satanic Temple. CoS is different.

[–] JigglySackles@lemmy.world 6 points 19 hours ago

They are beyond conservative. They want to teach revisionist history

[–] AbidanYre@lemmy.world 59 points 21 hours ago (2 children)

Amid an ongoing teacher shortage

"Nobody wants to come here, let's make it even less appealing."

[–] recently_Coco@lemmy.blahaj.zone 42 points 20 hours ago (3 children)

I think that's actually the plan. There's been moves to dismantle public education entirely, and once there is no more public education in Oklahoma, then the private schools can hire whoever they want.

[–] andros_rex@lemmy.world 25 points 20 hours ago

Yes, Walters is actively trying to destroy public education. He recently made an order that all schools fund free lunch for all students, using money from bonds, scholarships and other programs - all illegal.. The state turned away federal lunch funding as well. Even if you fired all of the admin staff at most districts, that is an impossible demand - and school budgets were already submitted weeks ago.

It’s absolute fucking insanity.

[–] AbidanYre@lemmy.world 7 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago) (1 children)

That seems to be the case, but what's the end game? No one in Oklahoma is employable, and then what? I guess it doesn't matter to the folks in charge?

[–] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 7 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Keep them stupid and breeding so they stay down. At least that's what the plan seems to be

[–] Xaphanos@lemmy.world 2 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

And when they starve due to zero public assistance? That can't be the plan.

[–] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 2 points 19 hours ago (2 children)

If the proles are dying of starvation, there will be no middle class to rise up by then. He literally said "no activists"

Not really. You can only hire unqualified, incompetent clowns. I'm sure they see some value in that, but a society won't function for long on that.

[–] SheeEttin@lemmy.zip 2 points 17 hours ago

That's the goal!

[–] FancyPantsFIRE@lemmy.world 15 points 21 hours ago (2 children)

Or attract people who probably shouldn’t be teaching.

[–] PancakesCantKillMe@lemmy.world 9 points 20 hours ago

As Texas did during educator shortages by lowering the standards to allow the unqualified to “teach”. There was also a push to draw from ex-military and other conservative demographics, but I don’t recollect the exact details. This compromise in quality was furthered by a scandal that had proxies taking the teaching standards tests for the already unqualified. So everything is going according to plan. /jfc

[–] athairmor@lemmy.world 5 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah, the pedophiles are going to be applying for OK teaching jobs en masse. I don’t even think this is an exaggeration. 😢

[–] andros_rex@lemmy.world 7 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago)

If you can get those football championships, it’s a-okay to show kids what “a real man’s dick looks like.” (this guy STILL has his teaching license)

I have some very inside baseball about systemic cover-ups at different schools.

[–] NewNewAugustEast@lemmy.zip 26 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago) (2 children)

the state ranks 46th in overall child well-being, 49th in education, 45th in health, and 40th in family and community.

And they only want to make it even worse. How do people in OK go along with this shit?

The kids likely can't even spell "woke".

[–] Crozekiel@lemmy.zip 7 points 15 hours ago

The majority of people in charge of our education system don't even have kids in the system... School boards are chock full of retired boomers who moved to OK after their kids were fully grown. And then there are the massive amount of religious nuts... Oklahoma does not offer education and hasn't for decades. No one what wants to change that can get elected because of aforementioned boomers and religious zealots.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 5 points 17 hours ago

"Thank god for Mississippi!"

[–] atzanteol@sh.itjust.works 38 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

the state is dedicated to “raising a generation of patriots, not activists.”

What a terrifying statement to make.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 8 points 16 hours ago

Just straight-up Trump Youth.

[–] betterdeadthanreddit@lemmy.world 28 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Pour one out for future comedy writers whose bizarre caricatures of Oklahoman ignorance will be tame and ordinary next to the real thing.

[–] andros_rex@lemmy.world 27 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago) (3 children)

It’s bad. One of the biggest “districts” in the state is Epic Charter Schools, a virtual school/state embezzlement scam (during COVID, the “learning funds” were buying TV’s and Christmas trees). Teachers there teach all subjects, all grades, so the same person teaching your kid Algebra 2 is teaching kindergarteners how to read.

The school only drops you if you don’t log in for 14 days. So a lot of kids will log in once or twice a week, maybe submit a couple of AI generated essays, and then spend the rest of the day playing video games and watching Netflix. These kids are functionally illiterate. I’m not even talking about the fact that our country decided to stop teaching phonics which has fucked up literacy everywhere, but more high schoolers who cannot read a paragraph or write a complete sentence. I taught a sophomore what Christianity was (not like indoctrination, but more that religion existed as a concept.)

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 1 points 10 hours ago

Moses fuck (sorry had to), but yeah that's real fucking bad. As a taxpayer I'm getting really sick of the fact that teachers aren't being given the resources they need to actually teach and that those resources are being split with charter and sometimes private schools.

Like, I was privately educated, but I want every kid to have the quality of education I got minus the Christian indoctrination. By the time a significant number of kids are entering middle school illiterate we need an independent investigation and report akin to when airplanes crash.

[–] betterdeadthanreddit@lemmy.world 15 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Sounds like child abuse. Hope they get the state they're working so hard to build.

[–] andros_rex@lemmy.world 11 points 19 hours ago

It sucks ass for those of us that are trapped here. It’s a battle that cost me my marriage, my mental health, everything. I’ve had so many friends and people I respect tap out. I had hope that if Kamala won there might be federal intervention - perhaps in education and foster care (especially kids who need psychiatric care/have disabilities, Jesus Christ is it an institution dedicated to sacrificing children to Moloch) - but nothing is probably ever going to change.

[–] TheRealKuni@lemmy.world 5 points 17 hours ago

For anyone who sees this, the podcast (at least that’s how I consumed it) that andros_rex linked here, Sold a Story from American Public Media, is fascinating, and terribly sad, and I very much recommend it. My wife and I binged the entire thing on a trip. I’ve since recommended it to every teacher I know, and many other people.

[–] Arcane2077@sh.itjust.works 20 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Prove you’re unintelligent in order to teach?? OK

[–] andros_rex@lemmy.world 7 points 20 hours ago

You certainly don’t need to prove that you know math to teach math.

Any bachelors is enough to get you in a classroom. I worked with physical education teachers teaching physical sciences. We didn’t have curriculum (books were more than ten years out of date) so I was teaching my colleagues how the periodic table worked.

Admittedly, this little order is pretty pointless - teachers are desperate to get out of Oklahoma. I remember driving to work every day seeing a sign I could make about 150% more just driving down to Fort Worth…

[–] DarkDecay@lemmy.world 9 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

You'd think leadership in this country would want a smarter population. But not conservatives, oh no. Smart people don't vote for shit stains so they know they'd be done

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 1 points 10 hours ago

The most educated generation became the most progressive, and since we happened to be financially fucked the educational experiment obviously failed /s

[–] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 10 points 21 hours ago

You know what? Actually, I don't.

[–] moobythegoldensock@infosec.pub 11 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

teachers from so-called “woke” states would also have to pass a new test of their knowledge of the U.S. Constitution, American exceptionalism, and “their grasp of fundamental biological differences between boys and girls.”

Question 5:

America is: a. Pretty good b. Great c. The greatest d. THE GREATEREST!!!!! AMERICA! FUCK YEAH!

[–] andros_rex@lemmy.world 10 points 21 hours ago (2 children)

Better to be a slave than killed! Columbus was so merciful to the Taino!
