The only correct answer.

Yes, there's a button for it if you go to someone's profile. I don't think it works for the browser version though.

discord is what mostly everyone's on these days but it's a shitty proprietary platform

there are some on irc...

[–] ragebutt@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 month ago

IRC depends on channel and time of day

Some channels are pretty active

[–] loomy@lemy.lol 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

why not get people from discord to switch?

[–] hexagonwin@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 1 month ago

heh only if it was easily done as said..

there's almost no alternative to people used to discord's features too.

Roblox.

You can plan a terrorist attack or play one of the many sponsored games run by a child grooming group.

Say what you will about Roblox, but I have to respect, if nothing else, the fact that they're kindof an intellectual-property-optional zone. It's unlikely you can think of a video game that there isn't a super-shitty rip off of on Roblox.

My kid and their friends would go on there to find pedos and report them to mods

Omegle

Gramps, they shut down 2 years ago

[–] WeirdGoesPro@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

There are new versions with extremely similar names.

Are any of those official successors?

Just about any defunct online service sees a dozen knockoffs of even more questionable quality than the original (for those into manga, think what happened to the site batoto after being sold). But it still remains that if you go to omegle.com, you get the defunct page and an explanation. Typing it into search engines did give exactly one that I know is legitimately a chatting service (ome.tv), but also are trying to act as if they are the original sites, some seemingly using templates and pointing to different apps to direct download their apks and the like.

I think suggesting they're the same as the original (which was grimy, and full of sex pests, but the site itself didn't pose such blatant infosec issues) is disingenuous imo

https://omegleweb.com/ worked for me pretty fine? Although I had to skip some 30 people, because "Omegle". Also IIRC omegleweb is like an offshoot version maintained by some guys in the community, I don't really remember. Numbers are pretty low though.

Shut it down it was the shit when it first came out. Damn times have come and gone.

It doesn't work. I've tried all the "restarts" they are either faulty in a sense of the don't work or they are dead and no one uses it anymore. It was shut down in 2022. The others are clones but I haven't found one that works for me or has anyone on it. It's dead.

VRchat. You don't even need VR. You can play it on your desktop free on steam. Met my best friends there.

I love IRC mostly for linux and tildeverse stuff but what I really want to find is a good star trek fan channel on IRC i tried creating some on a few networks but unlike field of dreams if you build it they don't always come.

What's on your mind, stranger?

I used to chill in csgo lobbies. Sometimes I would join a surf server and people would be rapping or just ranting about their life
