Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

Image is of the Power of Siberia natural gas pipeline, which transports gas from Russia to China. This isn't an oil pipeline (such as the ESPO) but I thought it looked cool. Source here.

Trump has recently proposed a 500% tariff on goods from countries that trade with Russia, including India and China (who buy ~70% of Russia's oil output), as well as a 10% additional tariff on goods from countries that "align themselves with BRICS." Considering that China is the largest trading partner of most of the countries on the planet at this point, and India and Brazil are reasonably strong regional players, I'm not sure what exactly "alignment" means, but it could be pretty bad.

Sanctions and tariffs on Russian products have been difficult to achieve in practice. It's easy to write an order to sanction Russia, but much harder to actually enforce these sorts of things because of, for example, the Russian shadow oil fleet, or countries like Kazakhstan acting as covert middlemen (well, as covert as a very sudden oil export boom can be).

Considering that China was pretty soundly victorious last time around, I'm cautiously optimistic, especially because China and India just outright cutting off their supply of energy and fuel would be catastrophic to them (and if Iran and Israel go to war again any time in the near future, it'll only be more disastrous). Barring China and India kowtowing to Trump and copying Europe vis-a-vis Nordstream 2 (which isn't impossible, I suppose), the question is whether China and India will appear to accede to these commands while secretly continuing trade with Russia through middlemen, or if they will be more defiant in the face of American pressure.

Israel-Palestine Conflict

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Sources on the fighting in Palestine against Israel. In general, CW for footage of battles, explosions, dead people, and so on:

UNRWA reports on Israel's destruction and siege of Gaza and the West Bank.

English-language Palestinian Marxist-Leninist twitter account. Alt here.
English-language twitter account that collates news.
Arab-language twitter account with videos and images of fighting.
English-language (with some Arab retweets) Twitter account based in Lebanon. - Telegram is @IbnRiad.
English-language Palestinian Twitter account which reports on news from the Resistance Axis. - Telegram is @EyesOnSouth.
English-language Twitter account in the same group as the previous two. - Telegram here.

English-language PalestineResist telegram channel.

Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Examples of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists
Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Sources:

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.
Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.
Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.
Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.
Simplicius, who publishes on Substack. Like others, his political analysis should be soundly ignored, but his knowledge of weaponry and military strategy is generally quite good.
On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Pro-Russian Telegram Channels:

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

https://t.me/aleksandr_skif ~ DPR's former Defense Minister and Colonel in the DPR's forces. Russian language.
https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.
https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.
https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.
https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.
https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.
https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.
https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine Telegram Channels:

Almost every Western media outlet.
https://discord.gg/projectowl ~ Pro-Ukrainian OSINT Discord.
https://t.me/ice_inii ~ Alleged Ukrainian account with a rather cynical take on the entire thing.

really don't understand why they even release that memo on Epstein, couldn't they have stayed quiet?

I feel like in the past two years, it’s been proven without a doubt that people in power can insist on their own truths to get away with whatever they want, even when the majority of the public know they’re being lies.

No matter how bad the lie is, if they repeat it enough they won’t be held accountable

Because in 5 years, these will become factual information when unravelled by archaeologists.

AI search engine - which will have become the mainstay tool for the masses to get informed - will point to these sources as truths and any question beyond that will be labeled as deranged conspiracy theory not worth entertaining, if not downright a danger to the society.

The behavioral control aspect of AI will ensure that the public consciousness, fully plugged into the mass surveillance and LLM technocracy by then, is finely controlled to perceive information exactly as intended by the ruling class.

I'm just very tired and regretting I went to read the news, but here we are.

So some smol bean nazi country news: Finland formally withdraws from Ottawa landmine treaty

No comments, just sigh.

Former Wagner fighter seeks asylum in Finland after fleeing Russia

I don't know enough about this to comment, it is of course framed in a very warmongery way.

Ukraine's reconstruction could lead to billions in Finnish exports, lobby says

Porky showing their true colors with regards to Ukraine I suppose. They have plenty of experience after having been part of such projects all over the Middle East.

Bit of rare honesty followed by the usual lies

Some of their sister vessels had made calls to Israeli ports in the past year, an analysis of shipping data showed.

First time I've seen western press admit the links that attacked ships have to Israel. Usually they obfuscate and mention everything except the Israeli connections (ie they'll mention it's Greek owned and Liberian flagged, but fail to mention it is headed for Israel. Or they'll mention it's headed for Saudi Arabia but fail to mention it's Israeli billionaire owned).

The Houthis [sic] attacked more than 100 ships from November 2023 to December 2024. In May, the U.S. announced a deal to stop bombing the Houthis in return for an end to shipping attacks, though the Houthis said the deal did not include sparing Israel.

The deal was merely a ceasefire between the American Navy and Ansarallah. There was nothing in the conditions of the deal about "sparing shipping" for Israeli ships

America has Aknowledged the Drone threat

It has Analyised the Drone Threat -

Aren't field manuals supposed to use meters? Either way it's much harder to judge size, speed, and distance in the air compared to on the ground. Good luck shooting down ultra-maneuverable drones with your giant, slow shotgun

[–] uSSRI@hexbear.net 12 points 3 hours ago

Thats 4 Abrams simultaneously hitting it in the picture. Are you doubting the troops skills? On my hexbear.gov?

and even though wojaks are the simplest fucking format they still manage to not get it right, that is not how you use it,

[–] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 25 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

I think the canonical way to make this meme would be to put racial caricatures on the left, then the soyjak reacting to them with the speech bubble saying "my food supply!!" then the chad wojak with hate symbol tattoo saying something else, like "I don't know how to square the contradictions here but maybe Epstein was just a lonely guy? Oh wait wrong culture war"

yeah, like that, this person is using the wojak like those 2012 memes with a silly looking animal or a person and big IMPACT

Weird how making these LLMs 'anti-woke' results in it Hitlerposting. curious-marx wonder why

[–] iridaniotter@hexbear.net 6 points 2 hours ago

Also: "We taught GPT-4o to write code with security flaws—and it spontaneously became antisemitic and genocidal."

[–] EnsignRedshirt@hexbear.net 47 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

This problem will never go away. You can't simultaneously feed an AI all the worlds information and then also want it to have a bunch of fringe opinions that have no verifiable basis in reality. Even if those fringe opinions were correct, there's no way to get the AI to adopt them unless the data supports them, and the data never will. Right-wing/anti-woke opinions are just a big collective fan fiction exercise expressed in posts and blogs that reference other posts and blogs. The only way to get Grok or any of the other AI tools to believe that stuff is by getting rid of all the other training data, making it useless except for the very narrow purpose of reinforcing a specific set of weird beliefs.

And that might be enough, except these dullards also want it to give them legitimate answers to legitimate questions, which is simply not reconcilable.

[–] Coolkidbozzy@hexbear.net 3 points 57 minutes ago

don't worry the racism will be patched out once we have AGI which is a real thing coming any day now

[–] EllenKelly@hexbear.net 31 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

i keep thinking about this
