Money. He could afford lawyers that were able to dive into every possible way of explaining away his crimes in a way that fit the jury's concept of reasonable doubt. Also by being able to avoid needing to address violence charges that were past the statute of limitations. Harder to sell violence as a way of coercing when you can't prosecute for it.
Plus he is famous and that frequently allows for less social judgement of crimes.
Yes and there's maybe some strings been pulled behind the scenes about what evidence was allowed.
The most serious charges, racketeering and sex trafficking, are a lot harder to prove in court.
For the example of racketeering, it has to be proven without a doubt that the parties (Diddy and henchman) were both knowingly committing crimes. In this particular case it was hard to produce evidence of the henchmen doing anything more than following instructions which in themselves were not of a criminal nature.
Fuck him, though. Even though he did not get the verdict we all know he deserves, nobody would want the toxicity of working or associating with him again. Well, maybe Kanye.
Yes. As much as I hate Diddy, the big charges were very hard to prove and one could say this outcome speaks highly of the jury's regard for a just outcome, and proves they put feelings aside.
Feelings are valid, but you are supposed to leave your feelings at the front of the courthouse, otherwise verdicts would be very volatile and trials would be an indictment on the person, and not what they did.
Ahhhh that makes sense thanks. Could they not have considered different charges eg sexual assault charges
Not really- from my understanding the issue with the sex trafficking charges were that there wasn't any explicit proof of the two women saying 'no', or being coerced into it. You'd have the exact same problem proving sexual assault.
Could well be right. I agree coercive control is difficult cos it's a pattern and victims "willingly" do things. SA can be a one off crime so it can be easier. You may be right though
Diddy parties only happened because famous people enjoyed them, and he for sure still has a ton of artists who idolize him (and a ton of new young ones probably do now too).
You said you don’t know enough about the evidence but also say that he “got off with so much”? Which is it?
