Years ago I've completed Dark Souls 2 using only magic (sorcery + pyromancy) - so no weapons at all. It went surprisingly smooth although I ended up not going to DLCs. > > I'm thinking on doing this for the first installment but I have some doubts: >

  • First, is it even possible to beat Four Kings with spells? On my first playthrough I tried to beat them with magic and it went really poorly. I'd prefer not to repeat this experience... >
  • Second, are locations like Duke's Archive and Oolacile even doable with spells? With the sheer amount of enemies with high magic resistance, they sound like hell, especially given that we don't have any magic restoration options from DS2.

Immolation-only run is possible, so sorcery + pyro would be fine. Pyro glove is the most useful part of a SL1 playthrough in DS1.

Pyro only isn't really possible without glitches or summons since Queelag is fire immune. But Sorcery+Pyro "spells only" should be fine. Enemies tend to be resistant to damage types, not general "magic", so if you can switch it up you're all good. Dukes archives shouldn't be a problem if using Pyromancy.

The problem with pyromancy is that it is low on uses - and there's so much fodder in the Archive, I'm afraid it will feel more like playing Resident Evil in Dark Souls (= avoiding most enemies because ammo is too precious).

It probably will, but I think it should be doable. I haven't tried it personally though so ymmv.

How can you even beat Seath? I feels like unless you do a glitch run it's not possible to get through those part you mentioned.

Edit: if "magic" you mean spell casting, which include pyro and miracle, then i think it's possible, but take a bit of patient.

I mean any magic, not just sorcery, yeah. I want to believe it's doable.

Totally doable me think, you just have to run a lot to conserve your magic use.

I don't have the patience for this, I need my sword sorcerer

I would watch this on YouTube.

Specifically Dark Souls 1, or also 2? Probably 1 since it's harder, but my friend did sorcery and crossbow only runs in 2.
