Every time I hear sirens, I feel scare af, thinking its the gestapo.

I'm a naturalized citizen btw, but I still don't feel safe (I'm not white).

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 18 points 6 days ago

I'm white AF, and my family has been here since the 1650s on one side, and 1720s on the other side. We literally funded a decent portion of the revolution. I'm still scared. They are coming for everyone that isn't them.

[–] OutlierBlue@lemmy.ca 12 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Don't worry, they won't arrive in uniforms with sirens. They'll arrive silently in masks.

[–] Echolynx@lemmy.zip 13 points 6 days ago

Hell, even birthright citizens aren't safe if they are perceived as non-white.

[–] Dasus@lemmy.world 39 points 6 days ago (7 children)

That is a sharp fucking rise for three months.

[–] Jankatarch@lemmy.world 4 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Isn't there a german word for it, blitzkrieg?

[–] Dasus@lemmy.world 6 points 6 days ago

"Blitzkrieg" is literally "lightning war", and just refers to the style of offense the Germans used against other European countries in WWII, which was largely responsible for their early military success.

Armies at that time relied on stationary positions and slow logistics, horse-drawn carriages for a large portion. The Germans just blitzed into France, through the Maginot line.

Which makes me wonder whether the current idea of MAD holding off war isn't as deluded as relying on the Maginot line. I sure hope it isn't.

Anyway this is more just fascism in general. A fast rise in authoritarianism. Not "war" in the classical sense, although it certainly is basically war.

1/4 is like 85 million people. some people are saying they aren't concerned since they're citizens but given what Trump has done, that can be stripped away at literally any moment

[–] hansolo@sh.itjust.works 7 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Meanwhile, I'm concerned about actual citizens being deported.

[–] Zahille7@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago

We can be concerned about anyone being deported

[–] Dasus@lemmy.world 6 points 6 days ago

they aren’t concerned since they’re citizens

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_They_Came

they aren't concerned because they are psychoticly evil and utterly selfish cunts.

if you send those to CECOT the US will be actually a great place to be

[–] NatakuNox@lemmy.world 36 points 6 days ago (1 children)

TIL 3 out of 4 Americans need to get out more.

[–] Pacattack57@lemmy.world 20 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

I mean 2 out of 4 believe the other 2 should be deported. 1 of those 2 don’t know that someone is trying to deport them. That’s the current state of America and how Trump got elected.

[–] pyre@lemmy.world 7 points 6 days ago (3 children)

yeah but all 3 just don't realize someone they know will get deported. first they came for the socialists, and all that.

I have a some very close friends who are Venezuelan. They all claim they aren't worried because they are citizens, but I'm not so sure. The MAGA Nazis don't respect Birthright Citizenship, they certainly aren't going to respect naturalization.

Bottom line: If you were born somewhere else, they want you gone.

[–] WoodScientist@sh.itjust.works 12 points 6 days ago

Hispanic people voting for Trump in 2024 will go down in history as the modern equivalent of the historical "Jews for Hitler" movement.

[–] frenchfryenjoyer@lemmings.world 9 points 6 days ago (1 children)

ICE has deported at least 70 US citizens (Source) The actual number could be wayyyy higher though

[–] Hobbes_Dent@lemmy.world 7 points 6 days ago

If that’s the bottom line, the fine print is that the elected American government wants you gone if you aren’t white. They don’t need to work on that layer yet.

Donald Trump could use the N-word on TV tomorrow and it would be accepted.

[–] 4grams@awful.systems 15 points 6 days ago

I am involved with a youth organization with my kids. We’re a very diverse group and so several of my kids friends are very precarious right now. I know at least one who carries 5 forms of ID everywhere outside of his house.

Monsters are running this country,

[–] Tikiporch@lemmy.world 29 points 6 days ago

Nearly everyone close to me voted for Trump. I fucking hope they get deported.

[–] TommySoda@lemmy.world 25 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Most of them are in denial. Every time I bring it up to my friends they're all like "yeah, but they won't come after me."

I left because I knew they'd be coming for me sooner rather than later. I'm a trans immigrant. I honestly kinda regret my citizenship because it's keeping me chained to the reich even from abroad.

[–] zbyte64@awful.systems 11 points 6 days ago

My daycare closed for a day so they could get their passports "just in case". This shit is infuriating.

[–] weremacaque@sh.itjust.works 15 points 6 days ago

I have a friend from the Philippines who is in school to be a nurse. When this started, she was scared this was going to affect students which did end up being true later.

[–] pawnfuture@lemmy.world 18 points 6 days ago (1 children)

The videos all over the internet expose everything. I can't imagine what it looks like from a normal country on the outside.

[–] Aliktren@lemmy.world 10 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Horrifying and you are all apparently just complaining about on social media ( yes there have been a few protests, big whoop)

This is what it is to live in a Nazi country

Arm yourself

Expect that when they come for youu, you aren’t coming back.

[–] Buske@lemmy.world 6 points 6 days ago (1 children)
[–] match@pawb.social 5 points 6 days ago

And birthright citizenship is under attack too.

[–] tomi000@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

How the fuck only 1 in 4? Youre living in a straight up fascist dictatorship. Anyone can be deported at any time for any arbitrary reason. How is not every single person scared as fuck?

A cousin and a friend. Yeah, it crosses my mind.

[–] ThePiedPooper@discuss.online 5 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

Anyone who thinks that protesting will stop this is an idiot. Hypothetically, if you wanted to stop this, either you put on a FULL ON general strike, not 200,000 people, but 20 million. Or you go and get your guns, and start driving the fuck over to your state capitol, or better yet, the WH.

[–] zbyte64@awful.systems 3 points 6 days ago

It's not just protesting though, we use it to train and organize people so later we can respond when the time comes. We need a diversity of tactics which is why I don't criticize how people protest anymore, as long as you are causing good trouble then you are not the problem.

[–] Zahille7@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago

My mom and I are at least two that I know of

[–] MangioneDontMiss@lemmy.ca 3 points 6 days ago
