General community for news/discussion in the UK.

Less serious posts should go in !casualuk@feddit.uk or !andfinally@feddit.uk
More serious politics should go in !uk_politics@feddit.uk.

Try not to spam the same link to multiple feddit.uk communities.
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

Abuse of terrorism laws to repress opinions the government disagrees with. Who could have seen this coming when those laws were introduced!

Ironically the Labour party when they were in opposition 😐

Tbf, leaving aside the morality of their cause, they broke into and vandalised an RAF base. That's more disruptive behaviour than most groups who get banned engage in.

For some reason Western governments can’t resist creating tyrannical laws for someone l worse to abuse later, with the excuse that no-one reasonable would use it for that.

"Oh no! Some random civilians exposed our utter incompetence to the world. Best call them terrorists before anyone gets any ideas for actual sabotage!"

[–] ohulancutash@feddit.uk 8 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I mean, it was actual sabotage. Those engines will need complete rebuilding.

It was sabotage, but to call it terrorism implies they were endangering human life. If they wanted to do that, they could have sabotaged the engines in a way that wasn't obvious, and would cause failures when the plane took off. This was clearly meant to be visible to everyone, they even filmed it. It'll cost money to fix, but it never endangered human life.

So you don’t count IRA bombings as terrorism because they often phoned in warnings to evacuate the area?

[–] cook_pass_babtridge@feddit.uk 1 points 2 months ago

Those are bombings in a public area, and some people did die.

You are allowed to protest, but only the things we allow you to protest. Go fly a fucking kite! Double down Palestine Action!!!

Palestine Action banned.

Action for Palestine and People's Palestine Action are accepting new members.

Don't join Popular Palestine Action though. Splitter.
