"NOW IS THE TIME FOR PEACE," posts the man who just led us into war.

[–] huppakee@feddit.nl 59 points 1 week ago

Ikr, it's like puncing someone in the face and then telling that person now is the moment to stop fighting lol

I read a post that said he couldn’t go to war without a vote from congress, was that wrong?

Edit: I’m not a US citizen so I’m not sure

[–] 2piradians@lemmy.world 51 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The constitution gives Congress the exclusive power to formally declare war.

That said, Congress hasn't declared war since 1942, yet we've obviously taken part in many wars since then.

Sadly there just hasn't been enough Congressional support to retaliate against a president for jumping to military action without authorization. And it doesn't help that the average American doesn't know that the president is not allowed to just deploy troops at will (in most cases, Iran included).

If the president can do it without consequences, then he is allowed. Turns out words on paper mean nothing.

[–] LogicalDrivel@sopuli.xyz 17 points 1 week ago

Legally speaking that's correct. There was nothing legal about this, though.

This is what you voted for protest-non-voters.

They're all patting themselves on the back right now claiming Harris would have done the same thing.

That'll teach the Democrats for not embracing socialism.

Kamala did warn you Americans.

[–] theacharnian@lemmy.ca 48 points 1 week ago (5 children)

Given how Germany, France, the UK etc have all lined up behind Israel, towing the line that Israel has a right to defend itself, and even going as far as saying that Israel is doing our dirty work for us, I have very serious doubts that Harris would not have followed Israel down the warpath.

Now, when a terrorist attack occurs, he's fully justified in declaring martial law.

It's as good as over, folks. Checkmate.

[–] Jhex@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago

he doesn't even need that. he already does whatever he wants legal or not

[–] Jhex@lemmy.world 46 points 1 week ago (6 children)

without congressional approval

[–] Glytch@lemmy.world 16 points 1 week ago (4 children)

Congress decided quite a while ago that presidents are allowed to have a little war, as a treat, and only seek approval for it later. It's been this way at least since the '90s and likely before.

*Bombs a peaceful country. “Now is the time for peace.” 🫲🍊🫱

Closeted men of war preaching about peace. Closeted gays fighting against gay rights. Judgemental/greedy/racist religious people putting themselves on a pedestal about how you should "take care of thy neighbor".

It's always the ones who preach the most, the same ones doing the exact opposite of what they preach. Always the ones bitching about the bad in the world actively hard at work making the world a shittier place.

Seriously, if Trump says the sky is blue I'll immediately look up just to check if it hasn't turned red/green/pink/whatever.

Be always wary of the ones telling you how to live, and watch out for their actions closely. There's no hate like the 'love' of these hypocrites.

[–] Noite_Etion@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Can someone help me out here. How do they know that these sites are being used for nuclear weapons production specifically?

Iran does have a nuclear power plant and they do enrich their own uranium. Not trying to justify these bombings, I'm just curious on how they determined these sites are specifically for weapon manufacturing.

[–] AbsolutelyNotAVelociraptor@sh.itjust.works 35 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Remember when Iraq had weapons of mass destruction?

Same thing.

[–] Noite_Etion@lemmy.world 15 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

So total bullshit with zero evidence, cool. Just felt I was missing something as they kept calling them nuclear sites without specifying what they believed the sites were being used for.

Thanks for confirming

[–] CPMSP@midwest.social 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You know, the first two were enough for the world.

I guess we've lived long enough to see ourselves become the villain.

Officially we'll only be able to call that afterwards, during the cold war ww3 also almost begun. We should still try stop and prevent it, no matter how difficult it to argue it hasn't begun yet.

[–] torrentialgrain@lemm.ee 11 points 1 week ago

Not defending any of this but these WW3 comments are so weird. The US has been in so many wars in the Middle East, why would this specific one turn into a world war? Especially since there will not be boots on the ground (you never know with trump but I think that’s genuinely the last thing he wants to do).
