From my experience, pit bulls are just like this. Every single one I've seen. They're baby.
Until they get too attached, think everyone is out to get them and rip someone's face off.
Jesus Christ, I swear some people just sit and wait for any cute picture of a pitbull so they can pounce and make "rip someone's face off" comments.

That’s true of any poorly socialized dog, even more so if it’s an intact male. If you’re against pitbull breeding you should be against every large breed with the capacity to maim and kill.
I am against breeds that were designed to kill. So yes pitbull, doberman, rottweiler should not breed for family dogs.
I think you ma be venting in the wrong sub. It's all in how you raise the dog, show them love a d kindness and they'll be youre best friend.
Do you own a dog? Do you have much experience with these breeds cause I do, minus dobermans and they all just want love in the end
A whole bunch of ignorance in the comment. Rottweilers were bread as working dogs and are some of the smartest and best tempered dogs out there.
Are you one of those people that think we should adopt pit bulls to euthanise them? The issue is not pit bulls, the issue is conservatives being allowed to have dogs.
No, I am one that thinks we should stop breeding them all together.
Ford stopped making the pinto because it was dangerous, we didn't just say well it's the drivers fault for allowing themselves to be rear-ended and making the car blow up, the car was dangerous from the maker.
Such is the pit bull is dangerous from the breeding.
I watch dogs as a job. I've had many pit bulls. I have had one that got aggressive, who responded to being yelled at. There were no other issues, and that was one of the best playmates I've seen.
If anything, pit bulls are commonly gentler than other breeds. I'm watching one right now who likes to give my dog kisses. A friend has a family pit bull who is one of the most timid dogs I've seen. I have only had pit bulls that are wonderful to be around. This is why eliminating the breed seems unacceptable to me.
It is learned behaviour--and, granted, it is easier to teach. Instead, acquiring the breed should require a licence.
I'm going to guess you have interacted with less than 100 and as you stated you had one that was aggressive... So more than 1 in 100 is aggressive. That's a high number of aggressive dogs.
Weird guess tbh and probably just flat wrong. You think the professional dogwatcher who is probably watching multiple dogs a day has interacted with less than 100 pit bulls lifetime? Sounds like you need to reassess reality.
I had one with an outburst who responded to me, then got along extremely well. I have had many dogs with outbursts. I had a small Yorkshire that went out of their way to lunge at other dogs, that did not respond.

I've worked in animal rescues, shelters, and at a veterinary clinic. I've interacted with probably hundreds of pit bulls in my life over the years, and I've fostered more than ten of them. My fosters were all lovely with me, other people (especially children), my resident dogs, and all my cats. One went on to become a service dog for a little boy with autism, and my last foster is now a support dog for a young adult with severe autism.
While I have met some pits with behavioral issues and different types of aggression, they are few and far between. There are many, many other breeds that have a higher percentage of individuals with dangerous behavioral issues than pit bulls.
I would encourage anyone who has such patently false ideas about these dogs to volunteer at their local shelter and get some actual experience with bully breeds. If that's too big an ask, have a conversation with the vet techs and doctor assistants at your veterinary clinic, and ask them which breeds they have the most difficulty with during appointments. It won't be put bulls. There is a reason that very few people that work with dogs share your opinion.
I’ve interacted with less than 100 but the highly trained pit mix rescue across the street still broke her leash, ran down my corgi and picked her up and shook her. The owner tackled her and our corgi was mostly ok (needed stitches on her neck, but no life threatening injury) and the owner readily payed the bill directly, but t by that dog had had months of interventional training by no-expense-spared training and still went nuts on a dog on the street across from its house.
Please listen to the people with experience working with or handling dogs. Pitbulls and other breeds aren't the problem. Irresponsible pet owners are

I agree with your sentiment, but even a well trained pitbull can be dangerous, just like any dog. Train and raise them right, and the dangers are mitigated, but not completely gone. Pedantic, I know, but you can't say they aren't dangerous at all.
The issue is people having bread them for fighting. What does conservatism have to do with cherished family pitbulls occasionaly killing babies?
You know how conservatives frequently say they dislike cats? It's because cats can't be trained. And misogyny (case in point: my father). They don't like not having control. It often isn't control they want, however, but instead abuse. Something to hit that won't hit back.
That's how aggression happens.
Case in point, I know someone in Texas who mentioned dogs breaking out a lot. They noted that many of them are pit bulls.
A person wants a strong, obedient dog that will get the bad guy. Does that, or does that not sound like a conservative?
Pit bulls are otherwise very loving family dogs, which seems to be genetic.

Wild take is one way to put it. I’ve known conservatives who do like cats. We should be careful here how we characterize, and not create some kind of false mythos. Like what’s next, conservatives don’t like cookies? They’ll run a bakery that won’t make a gay wedding cake, but yeah they probably still like fucking cookies.
From my experience? Absolutely. I have "family" elsewhere outright mean to their cat, just because they failed to raise him. I have an extremely close friend who has provided examples of many people (but particularly men) who hate cats, and cite reasons oddly aligned with misogyny.

That's not how breeding works. Fighting dogs are trained to fight, they don't just grow up with inbuilt knowledge.
Um that is exactly how it works.
- Have a dog in a fight
- Dog wins
- Breed that dog
- Of the puppies that then fight and win breed those
Congrats, that's forced evolution by selective breeding and only the most aggressive and mean dogs traits are passed on.

Because that's not how it works. You can breed for particular traits, as you mentioned, but behavioural characteristics (such as aggression) are more complex than simple genetic traits. You could breed two highly aggressive dogs together and get a placid dog as a result.
You're talking about behavioural characteristics, not skills. Dogs don't know how to fight without training any more than people know how to drive a car without lessons.
And as far as aggressive behaviour goes, pitbulls aren't necessarily any more or less aggressive than other breeds. There have been lots of studies on aggression in dogs that show that breed is not a good predictor of behavioural tendencies (https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9679229/).
Conservatives? I live in a majority black city and I can tell you it's definitely not conservatives that are owning shitty pit bulls. The breed is fucked for the most part
Okay, fine. It's a problem with people wanting a dog for home defence, when such a case will practically never happen in most places, and then that dog breaks out.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but very few aspects of life have such exact explanations.
I would make sure the owner knows about this behavior. Napping is probably the pup's coping mechanism to deal with a potentially scary/chaotic/dangerous new environment, BUT there might be a medical issue. If the pup is sleepy/low-energy all the time or is in pain such that moving hurts, the owner will probably want to tell their veterinarian.
It does look like 3 of those pictures may be the same golden, so it may not be just sleeping on all random dogs. Could just be a case of cuddling with one or two that it likes. That's also a really young puppy by the looks, and getting tuckered out isn't abnormal.
Still good advice to keep eyes and watch for the things you mentioned.
