Down to 27, that's inspiring! I hope one day I can keep it that low. π₯Ή

Why am I still hearing about fucking chrome in 2026
I... what? It's the most used Browser in the world. Also you're apparently in the future.
Just... Just don't use Chrome. Just install Firefox already. Better yet, Libre Wolf as it comes with all important privacy settings and add-ons.
yea, that's exactly what I'm saying
"I don't get it why am I hearing about the single most popular and most used browser on the planet in this day and age I mean it makes no sense"
Right.
For the record, I do use Firefox. I just think this whiny namby pamby elitism over a meme referencing the single most used browser is just... weird.
It's not meant to be taken literally, it's a figure of speech that expresses frustration in hearing about corporate software in circles I would expect to collectively know better.
Come to think of it, this is in fact a capture from twitter or bluesky (I guess?), so it could be anyone and my expectations were a bit fantastic
I got rid oft 300 (Firefox) tabs today. Now I've just got 400 left between Firefox and LibreWolf.
27? I have over 200.... Do I need help?
my inner cluttered-ui-hating autism bugbear fighting my tab-hoarding adhd goblin: YOU CAN HAVE FIVE TABS, AND THEN USE THE FUCKING BOOKMARKS FOLDER!!!
the bookmarks folder: [is a link-hoarding dragon]
I feel seen.
I paid for the computer memory, I'm going to use all the computer memory!
checking the comments to see how many tabs people have only to realize you have more than all of them combined π
maybe i do have issues
holy shit yall some big tab goblins
I have organized folders of bookmarks for things I go back to, ":D" tabs meaning >99, and a separate unorganized bookmark folder with a collection of tabs from an old phone that made me realize I will never go back to bookmarked "to read" tabs bc I already can't get thru the collection that's open.
I've got ":D" tabs open and I'd rather not know what the number greater than 99 is.
27 chrome tabs? Nah mate, you should see my 15 Vivaldi workspaces with between 10 and 78 tabs each.
Only 27? I habe 2700.
i habe
Schliass dei tΓ€bbs du seggl :)
Iβve slowly been going through mine during odd little moments, went from 1,900 to 1,200.
Itβs easy to get rid of the first few hundred but after that thereβs a lot more bookmarking/mind mapping legwork. I know I wonβt be just flicking through these tabs, every few dozen is related to another (often DOA) project.
Whata DOA?
Probably "dead on arrival." ie. useless.
The reason I need my 96GB of RAM
Both your Chrome tabs better be important.
Rookie numbers
Me, currently with 66 tabs open in Firefox.
Chrome?
Ew.
27 isn't a lot...
Definitely rookie numbers, I'm somewhere around 1100 Firefox tabs atm...
Buddy over here torturing his RAM.
My ADHD swings the other way, each tab uses more of my personal brain RAM, and thus decreases my overall performance.
Am I a boomer for just bookmarking things. I hate having a bunch of tabs open
Same. I have well organized bookmarks. 10 Pinned tabs for the essentials, and whatever tabs are necessary for what I'm doing.
When I see someone's computer with multiple browser windows open with 100s of tabs each, it just seems so overwhelming. You can't even read the title of the tab when there's that many open.
624 checking in here. Firefox is starting to crumble under the weight. I blame YouTube
I can't do more then 5. Gotta close the browser so it purges and start over
Yea, I think this depends on when you grew up learning your browsing habits. Back in my day lol when tabs came around, the computers could only handle a small handful before bringing the computer to its knees. Now the browsers donβt actively load the other tabs but I still canβt stand to have more than maybe 10 tabs when Iβm researching something before I get an eye twitch.
Shit, I never thought about it that way, but you may be onto something here. Not only tabs were heavy, they werenβt isolated into processes in most early implementations (IIRC that was the big Chrome selling point early on) and could crash your whole browser, so it made me extremely nervous opening too many tabs as I could lose it all with one error.
Youβre remembering correctly. Back when chrome was the lightweight browser with the cutting edge features. So much enshitification since then :(
It's not even that. Like how do you have more than 10 tabs? I mean physically how do you interact with them, the button get too small.
Anyway I think it's much more sensible to have a 100 website saved in my bookmarks
Yeah, I think people who do this don't realize just how simple bookmarks are... Like it's pretty much exactly the thing they want.
Can only speak for myself, but bookmarks are not at all the thing I want.
There's more cognitive effort needed when creating a bookmark (not to mention several clicks and key presses) - I need to classify, organize, assign a folder, think about relevant tags.
More importantly: while I expect to need the tab again in the near future, it is likely to be completely useless in a few days. Creating a bookmark for that is going to be wasteful clutter that I need to spend more mental energy cleaning up.
The parent comment expressed incredulity at being able to manage that many tabs. I'm not sure how converting them to bookmarks instead helps. It just seems like I'll need more clicks to get to my site.
Also, I care about the state saved in my open tabs and don't want to reload the page every time I visit it. Many websites are built in such a way that loading the URL again doesn't even restore the same state, and sometimes it doesn't work at all.
Bookmarks are useful, and I do use them, but they are not a workable replacement for tabs, at least to me.
At some point the buttons don't get smaller and you can scroll them if they exceed the width of your screen. At least some browsers also give you tab groups so it stays a bit more organized.
Yeah, tab hording is pathological and should be added to the DSM lol
I don't have that many tabs open. I keep them neat and tidy!
Now, the bookmarks... π©
Chrome, in this dystopia?
I started using multiple browsers to keep the sessions separated. I now have like 4 browsers with over a hundred tabs on each. And that's just on my phone!
they have browser containers for you now. tab groups
I genuinely use between 100-200 most of the time.
Like, what are you doing that only requires 27?
I only have 176 open now because I accidentally closed them all a few months ago and couldn't get them back.
