Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

What do you mean "almost"?

[–] pruwybn@discuss.tchncs.de 33 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Part of you is oxygen you inhaled.

[–] kbal@fedia.io 7 points 1 month ago

Most of that oxygen has been around I would think, but I guess some atoms would've come from recent micrometeorites or whatever.

I guess, some bacteria might have made it into your body in other ways, but might still be considered part of you in the wider sense...?

[–] KoboldCoterie@pawb.social 15 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Plus there's all those microplastics mixed in there.

[–] Godort@lemm.ee 8 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Those were also arguably food at some point

[–] wreckedcarzz@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

I'll take a #1 2 liter coke bottle and a uhhhhhh mini tray table

crunch mmmm

[–] jerkface@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 month ago

Eating something doesn't make it food. You can eat a bike but you're not a metalovore.

[–] Zenith@lemm.ee 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

There’s more life in your gut than cells in your whole body

[–] Ephera@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 month ago

Ah yeah, my comment was caveated as such, because I assumed those bacteria to have mostly gotten there via food. Then again, no idea if any even survive going through the stomach acid...

[–] irelephant@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

Bacteria, air inside you, implants/prostetics. Essentially just a smartass shield.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 27 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Almost all of you is food right now if you go try and hug a bear.

[–] wreckedcarzz@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

Hey hey, I'm not a cannibal! I'm just a little chubby... and I like hugs...

[–] Please_Do_Not@lemm.ee 21 points 1 month ago

You hear it as a joke when you're young, but it's not til you're old that you realize "you are what you eat" is literal.

[–] remon@ani.social 9 points 1 month ago

All of us are food all the time.

[–] renegadespork@lemmy.jelliefrontier.net 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Literally all of you was either food/drink or oxygen from the air at some point—whether it was consumed by you or by your mother.

[–] AbouBenAdhem@lemmy.world 13 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Unless you have dental fillings or other implants.

[–] irmoz@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Theseus' ship wants to know if those fillings are really part of you

[–] SuDmit@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 month ago

Is Theseus happy?

[–] AbouBenAdhem@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Theseus’ ship hasn’t been the same since they replaced the rudder with an AI.

[–] howrar@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 month ago

Or if you worked an asbestos mine

[–] chonglibloodsport@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

No, most of me was water I drank!

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

You were water that YOU drank???

Oh......oh this is hurting my brain trying to work this out.

[–] Cyv_@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Jokes on you, I'm technically food right now!

[–] tinwhistlepilot@programming.dev 1 points 3 weeks ago

Indeed I’m food for bears!

[–] Yermaw@lemm.ee 3 points 1 month ago

My sweat is just seasoning.

[–] 0x01@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 month ago

Oh like all of the material of your body was food, at first I thought you just had really bad grammar and meant "all of you" meaning allb of us readers or something and all the comments were just keeping up the bit

[–] tatann@lemm.ee 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I don't get it. Is this a joke about "swallowing" ?

[–] admin@lemmy.today 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I don't think so, more like you are built of nutrients you get from food you eat so technically you are the food you ate.

[–] tatann@lemm.ee 1 points 1 month ago

Thanks, maybe I should sometimes get my mind out of the gutter
