Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

Oh, no, not my beloved healthcare insurance provider who's always been there for me ever since my boss chose them and I have nothing but great customer service experiences with.

[–] Bartsbigbugbag@lemmy.ml 33 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah I’m so happy with them only covering 25 days worth of insulin for my wife instead of 30, and not covering the more effective insulin at all, only the off brand that doesn’t work nearly as well so she has to take twice as many units at a time. Refusing to cover my yearly required heart checkups and my wife’s throat scan for cancer so we have to pay thousands out of pocket that still doesn’t reach my deductible. Such a great company.,

[–] conditional_soup@lemm.ee 18 points 2 weeks ago

Yes, exactly! What would we do without such fine American institutions! Please, won't someone think of the investors!

Holy shit, a company of that size being under investigation for Medicare fraud is big news. The government takes getting defrauded very seriously and I’m pretty sure Medicare and Medicaid fraud requires repayment 10x.

We’d be talking tens of billions, if not hundreds, in penalties if the system wasn’t so fucking corrupt. I’d bet they get a slap on the wrist though.

[–] AnarchoAnarchist@hexbear.net 52 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Just ask Senator Rick Scott, former Governor of Florida, how likely someone is to see real consequences for defrauding Medicare.

[–] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 20 points 2 weeks ago

And the people who keep voting for him still just blame poor people for being welfare queens not the ones committing the majority of fraud/waste

Adventurism has a 100% success rate in the last 10 years so far.

he-laughed

Why tho? Is there like a specific reason?

[–] Lyudmila@hexbear.net 78 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Investors are mad that UHC management got scared and backed off on the blatant evil by a teeny tiny amount for a few weeks after the CEO got wasted.

porky-scared-flipped "oh my god they're going to kill me!"

pronounjak-rage "HOW DARE YOU PRIORITIZE YOUR LIFE OVER MY DIVIDENDS!"

funniest shit ever

I heard people saying about the luigi-dance that it was adventurism and wasn't going to achieve much, turns out it wasted porky-happy billions

Definitely adventurism but finally one that was thought out enough to both serve as a great rallying issue for the disaffected masses as well as strike enough fear into the targeted company that it sent them into a tailspin. As communists, adventurism isn't one of our tactics but this is a rare case of it being a relatively effective tactic

[–] Sinisterium@hexbear.net 23 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Luigi isnt a communist, he could be made one, but he didnt do it (allegedly) due to any concrete leftist believes.

[–] Jabril@hexbear.net 13 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah of course

adventurism as a member of an official socialist organization is dangerous, not as a rando. It was also primarily said because people on hexbear literally thought there was going to be a russian revolution 2.0 in america by Christmas.

sicko-wistful

[–] Dessa@hexbear.net 15 points 2 weeks ago

Adventurism may not be a solution, but it is part of the narrative!

Holy shit they're finally getting called on this? MA billing fraud has been like an open secret for like a decade, I'm actually shocked this is finally getting investigated. The FTC has probably gotten thousands of tip line calls on this for every single insurance company that offers MA plans.

[–] MarmiteLover123@hexbear.net 35 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I think it's because UnitedHealth took it to the extreme: there's rumours that they were falsifying HIV/AIDS diagnosis.

[–] Lyudmila@hexbear.net 28 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)
[–] MarmiteLover123@hexbear.net 22 points 2 weeks ago

It's just a rumour, so it could definitely be false. But nothing surprises me these days...

New shorting strategy just dropped!

[–] culpritus@hexbear.net 44 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

So Witty was the CEO before Thompson, and iirc Thompson was basically a fall guy installed to shield Witty from investigations into all kinds of shady shit going on. So Witty came back after the shooting, and then left again for "personal reasons". Hopefully Witty gets his just deserts eventually.

[–] miz@hexbear.net 39 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

different corporations:

  • Witty stepped down as CEO of UnitedHealth Group
  • Thompson was CEO of UnitedHealthcare, a subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group

How are we, as a bunch of communists, supposed to keep track of all these obscure splits and near-identical names?

[–] D61@hexbear.net 14 points 2 weeks ago

The diving line between those of us who've read the histories and those of us who just post on hexbear. quokka-smile

Between this, and the Japanese cult actually dying after the-doohickey , anti-adventurism guys are in shambles.

[–] SerLava@hexbear.net 15 points 2 weeks ago

I switched away from United in January to help end this cursed company

[–] vegeta1@hexbear.net 12 points 2 weeks ago

They're like hydra. Cut off one and some more shitty companies will take its place.

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

UnitedHealth also swiftly abandoned its financial guidance, blaming skyrocketing medical costs.

Gee, I wonder who drove these skyrocketing medical costs?

[–] zod000@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 weeks ago

Just imagine how much the superior Mario brother could have done!
