Discussion of climate, how it is changing, activism around that, the politics, and the energy systems change we need in order to stabilize things.

As a starting point, the burning of fossil fuels, and to a lesser extent deforestation and release of methane are responsible for the warming in recent decades: Graph of temperature as observed with significant warming, and simulated without added greenhouse gases and other anthropogentic changes, which shows no significant warming

How much each change to the atmosphere has warmed the world: IPCC AR6 Figure 2 - Thee bar charts: first chart: how much each gas has warmed the world. About 1C of total warming. Second chart: about 1.5C of total warming from well-mixed greenhouse gases, offset by 0.4C of cooling from aerosols and negligible influence from changes to solar output, volcanoes, and internal variability. Third chart: about 1.25C of warming from CO2, 0.5C from methane, and a bunch more in small quantities from other gases. About 0.5C of cooling with large error bars from SO2.

Recommended actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the near future:

The amount of children who will because of this choice live abrupt, cruel, difficult lives is catastrophic, and not only do I see this as a condemnation of conservatives in the U.S., I see it as a condemnation of our entire society most especially centrists that treated such important science as something that could be tossed aside easily and uncermoniously like this or that insufferably came to the conversation with the axiom that there would be two sides and that some idiot trying to push a fake narrative deserved equal time at the table to talk as did someone who has devoted their entire career to science or public safety..

...in short fuck the joe rogans of the U.S. who spent all this time casually wondering if any of this was really real or whether the nerds were just freaking out because they are nerds who don't have any sense of proportionality and always think the sky is falling....

Centrists in the U.S. have pretended to believe in climate science for years, but they never actually accepted the existentiality at the core of it, just the aesthetics of caring and a couple of rhetorical points on it that they would parrot and then decide "this is too cynical of a conversation!" and utterly stop thinking about it.

This isn't hyperbole, without accurate climate data we are easily looking at 100s of millions of dead in the coming decades.... all the way up to billions if things go as badly as they kind of seem like they are going honestly.

To turn the sensors and science off now is to commit a holocaust of future children.

As long as those who suffer are poor and/or not white the US government doesn't care.

the budget has been reduced by 25% from 2024

To what? Say the budget cnn. How much does this vital service cost? How much money does this save? Why aren't you saying that instead of giving an empty percentage with no basis for interpretation?

Worthless fucking newspaper. Just a reminder, cnn is owned by a republican billionaire.

This is like how they've been reporting Trumps budget proposal.

Its an overall increase for the budget, while cutting a ton of things that helps everyday people.

Of the 41 goals for dismantling environmental regulation laid out in Project 2025, 21 are now complete with 7 more currently in progress.
