Donald Trump plans to announce while on his trip to Saudi Arabia next week that the United States will now refer to the Persian Gulf as the “Arabian Gulf” or the “Gulf of Arabia”, according to two US officials.

The move has prompted a push back from Iranian leaders.

On Wednesday, Iran’s current foreign minister weighed in, saying that names of mideast waterways do “not imply ownership by any particular nation, but rather reflects a shared respect for the collective heritage of humanity”.

What is it with Trump's obsession with renaming gulfs? These aren't your gulf courses.

Please pay no attention to these distraction.

I hereby rename 'Mar A Lago' to the 'Moore of Legos'. Visitors are also here by prohibited from wearing shoes while in the facility to demonstrate their toughness and fealty to the lord of plastic bricks...

It makes about as much sense as anything these days.

My foreign-language comprehension has admittedly slipped since studying linguistics in college, but doesn't "Mar a Lago" mean "ocean by the lake"?

I have no clue, just that golf course the orange muppet spends a lot of time at.

The name Mar-a-Lago means "sea to lake" in Spanish, reflecting the fact that the estate extends from one end of Palm Beach Island to the other, touching the Atlantic Ocean on the east and the Lake Worth Lagoon on the west

I was running features design for The Palm Beach Post before Trump got into politics. It's now a regrettable situation.
