A community for your defence shitposting needs

Rules

1. Be niceDo not make personal attacks against each other, call for violence against anyone, or intentionally antagonize people in the comment sections.

2. Explain incorrect defense articles and takes

If you want to post a non-credible take, it must be from a "credible" source (news article, politician, or military leader) and must have a comment laying out exactly why it's non-credible. Low-hanging fruit such as random Twitter and YouTube comments belong in the Matrix chat.

3. Content must be relevant

Posts must be about military hardware or international security/defense. This is not the page to fawn over Youtube personalities, simp over political leaders, or discuss other areas of international policy.

4. No racism / hatespeech

No slurs. No advocating for the killing of people or insulting them based on physical, religious, or ideological traits.

5. No politics

We don't care if you're Republican, Democrat, Socialist, Stalinist, Baathist, or some other hot mess. Leave it at the door. This applies to comments as well.

6. No seriousposting

We don't want your uncut war footage, fundraisers, credible news articles, or other such things. The world is already serious enough as it is.

7. No classified material

Classified ‘western’ information is off limits regardless of how "open source" and "easy to find" it is.

8. Source artwork

If you use somebody's art in your post or as your post, the OP must provide a direct link to the art's source in the comment section, or a good reason why this was not possible (such as the artist deleting their account). The source should be a place that the artist themselves uploaded the art. A booru is not a source. A watermark is not a source.

9. No low-effort posts

No egregiously low effort posts. E.g. screenshots, recent reposts, simple reaction & template memes, and images with the punchline in the title. Put these in weekly Matrix chat instead.

10. Don't get us banned

No brigading or harassing other communities. Do not post memes with a "haha people that I hate died… haha" punchline or violating the sh.itjust.works rules (below). This includes content illegal in Canada.

11. No misinformation

NCD exists to make fun of misinformation, not to spread it. Make outlandish claims, but if your take doesn’t show signs of satire or exaggeration it will be removed. Misleading content may result in a ban. Regardless of source, don’t post obvious propaganda or fake news. Double-check facts and don't be an idiot.

Look at this stuff, isn’t it neat?

Wouldn’t you say my collection’s complete?

Wouldn’t you say I’m the girl, the girl who has everything?

I’ve got russian subs and helicopters. Bridges parts and train cars a plenty.

Russian surface ship? Over twenty.

But who cares? No big deal. I want mooooore.

I want to go where the yankees are

See them take fire and start dodging, juking

Losing their planes to those… what do you call them?

Oh yeah…. Anser Alwah Houthis.

DW America here in Australia we lost to the emus. There's no shame in losing to the fishies

They are arming the mermaids!

(There is prob some war profiteering to be done with some light murmaidering.)

Idk if that sneaky little Dethklok reference was intentional or not, but I'm not letting it go unremarked! Great work!

Edit: remarked

The little mermaid. Soundtrack by Kenny Loggins.

We're making weapons deals with Atlantis? So sad to see King Triton become part of the MIC

[–] Gates9@sh.itjust.works -1 points 8 hours ago (3 children)

Don’t they regularly dump perfectly good shit into the ocean on purpose so they have to buy more shit from war profiteers?

[–] Valmond@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

Yes, but only in conspiracy theorists minds.

[–] InternetCitizen2@lemmy.world 4 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

The issue is that recent losses are said to be due to evasive manoeuvring.

Which begs the question on why the carrier felt threatened and why its back up is not intercepting more.

Got it yes I’ve learned more context since I first posted. Sure seems like maybe the rebels destroyed it and the U.S. is covering it up?

[–] InternetCitizen2@lemmy.world 4 points 5 hours ago (2 children)

Too early to rule out. But threatening a ship is a far greater mid step to admit than shooting down some aircraft.

I think its a mix of things (speculative). Command might be under budgetary pressure. We are at war and spending more cash will make it obvious. In order to save money they might be using manoeuvre instead of expensive intercept missiles. Extended deployment of the crew does not help and creates complacency in procedure.

I’m fairly sure if something dangerous is shot at you, dodging like Neo in the matrix is a normal response, even if you’re confident of shooting it down.

Because what if you don’t?

[–] Gates9@sh.itjust.works 1 points 5 hours ago

Hmm, also maybe they blew it up while it was parked and they just dumped it?

[–] swab148@lemm.ee 2 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

I don't know where you got that information, but in this case, they literally just missed the landing.

[–] Gates9@sh.itjust.works 2 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

Hmm, I coulda swore it was a thing in the last couple decades…turns out that only applies to certain specific scenarios, where they had to ditch it either way, overweight ballast, stuff in the desert, obsolete (and now illegal) WWI & WWII ordinance, etc. Also turns out that instead of dumping most obsolete equipment into the ocean, they now dump it into the “used” market.

Say, who do you think brokers those deals?

I hope this continues. I want them to steam back into their home port, in bafflement and shame, as they return home the first ship in the history of US Naval Aviation...to lose its entire complement of aircraft without ever taking a hit. They literally lose every single one of their aircraft.

[–] sbv@sh.itjust.works 3 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Maybe they're dropping them like breadcrumbs so they can find their way back.

[–] InvertedParallax@lemm.ee 3 points 6 hours ago

The real carrier air wing was the friends we made along the way.

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 8 points 19 hours ago

HMAS Melbourne might be the most cursed ship in all the world. Had six collisions with other ships, sinking 2 friendly navy ships (in peacetime) and racking up a body count in excess of 150 killed across 3 navies. Played by fires and a boiler explosion. 6 of her jets were damaged in 1960 alone. Eventually it was sold for scrap, bought by a Hong Kong company.for use as a casino, then transferred to China where the PLAN reverse engineered here steam catapults despite the express desire of the Australian government that the ship not end up in china.

They're already at three, they managed to shoot one down as well.

The Truman aircraft carrier in particular, though, has been plagued with problems as part of its Red Sea deployment. In December, another F/A-18 fighter jet was operating from the Truman when it was “mistakenly fired” upon by the USS Gettysburg and crashed into the Red Sea. Both aviators ejected safely at the time.

When you fire the top quarter of your four stars, funny things happen.

Good thing everyone in the military is there on merit now that they got rid of all the DEI hires.

How's that ceasefire going?

It’s been tooooo long since someone leaked secret documents to Gajin. Don’t these players want to make a better game? Start leaking!

[–] Ilovethebomb@lemm.ee 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

One fell off when they swerved, one fell off the end when something happened to the arrestor cable, and they shot one down by mistake.

Still not as bad as the New Zealand navy, but bloody hell.

[–] FaceDeer@fedia.io 27 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Surely the Red Sea will fill up with F-18s at some point.

[–] Phen@lemmy.eco.br 46 points 1 day ago (1 children)

There are already more F-18s in the sea than submarines in the sky.

[–] obinice@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago
